Requesting Grown-up Theme from HTC

Don-

Touting your definition searching skills by copying and pasting them is purely infantile and redundant. I assume you know what infantile and redundant mean so please, and I stress, don't copy and paste the definitions of them here. Also, by testing a device I meant actually USING the device in question. My advice to you sir is to go and get your hands on a palm treo 700 running on windows mobile 5. This is far more adult and professional. Not advanced mind you. Just adult. And professional.

Goodbye. Good riddance. You troll.

Thank you for the suggestion, I decided to go with a Blackberry.

The amount of time he has spent in this thread complaining he could have changed all his contact pictures.

For some reason I keep wanting to explain myself because I have a hard time believing that people are so rude when I was simply asking for support so that I could write a letter to HTC requesting a little more flexibility in the default image for incoming/outgoing phone calls.

And I'm amazed at how many free thinking Android users are so fixed on the Android Logo itself that they forget about what the Android actually represents:

At Google, the team led by Rubin developed a mobile device platform powered by the Linux kernel which they marketed to handset makers and carriers on the premise of providing a flexible, upgradeable system.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)#History

It just seems like people would rather fight with me rather than working together for a more flexible phone.

Just for the record I was not criticizing the OS, I was just disappointed in HTC's lack of flexibility in the UI.

Troll (Internet) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Do not feed the trolls" and its abbreviation DNFTT redirect here. For the Wikimedia essay, see "What is a troll?".

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]

If I came across as a troll I apologize, it was unintentional. The purpose of the thread was to request a little flexibility from HTC's default theme....I stayed on topic " Android Themes", while others replied to the thread with off-topic commentary and offensive remarks trying to provoke me.

There were a couple productive and supportive replies which I really do appreciate.

Thanks,
Don

Like I said, go get a simpler, more plain and less functional device and call it a motherf***ing day. Bye now.

Cut the man some slack and read all the beginning posts. He did not like the Robot, if anyone can help him great, if not then just say it cannot be fixed.

I believe Don the mistake you made right off the bat was the iPhone suggestion. That does not go over well here from what I see.

My wife really hates that robot on her Eris as well, but she ignores it.
LOL./

Im really new to this forum and smart phones in general but Im just wondering, Android is really popular right now and they have phones with many carriers. Do you think, just maybe, that your client may already know what the android logo is? I dont know why they would see you as unprofessional, im sure they have an android phone too, or at least know someone who does.

I agree with this poster and it was a beginning problem for me as well. Damn it kids we bought you the sandbox yet your throw the sand everywhere. We bought you your damn bike and you park it behide my car ! Yes, it does seem like its a kiddy game. I wanted adult programs and yet so much kid stuff. One should have a choice and not have bubble gum flavoring thrown into everything... If the programs were free I would have gone with iphone. But I am a cheap sob and believed the hype how this is going to be an open phone. How we can have it "Our Way". So "wheres the beef?" All in all I am happy with my G1. Best program I have is sipdroid where I can get around the Vietnamese ripoff telecoms and call home for 1 cents a minute with Gizmo5.
And keep your flames to yourself. I and the origianal poster have a valid complaint.
And pick up your gum wrappers!

Hello - I am requesting the ability to change the green robot image that appears on my screen during calls. This is fine for teenage boys, but I am a 40 year old adult who works for a living. I would prefer something else.

I have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee and I hate to return the phone for something that should be changed very easily.

The green robot is "creepy" to me. No one else's opinion matters or how tight they think I am. I don't like it and would like HTC to develop a way to make it optional.

wow. old people sure do get pissed at the strangest little things. HTC isnt going to make a whole new theme for the few people that are so deeply offended by a freaking logo. If you dont like it so much switch to a blackberry or winmo device. although i wouldnt get the HD2, the fact that they include the transformers 2 movie might offend you.

I too use my phone for business, and have always wanted a more professional look. It would be a whole lot easier if Google contacts would let one change all contacts at once to help with that portiion of the look of the phone. Look I got over star wars, legos, batman, superman, back in the 70's when I was oh, say, 9. It is nice to have choices with android, but it is still pretty locked down. My carrier has had htc patch our software to make it almost unrootable. Rooting is also not for the average user, it is for the geeks, and it is not easy for the average person to attempt.

WOW, i really enjoyed reading this stupid thread....

i have to say i agree with the OP.
i dont need my phone to be professional, i don't have meetings or people to impress that would think my green android was childish. but i (a 22 YO) think the android is childish and i would love to customize it to something more my style. i dont think it was much to ask for and should have been implemented into the andoid OS already.
maybe later??
i feel bad that everyone jumped on this guy so fast.

I'm offended by the Google logo on the back of my phone. I think they are using their branding and trademarking to brainwash us, and will soon be the overlords of the free world. Don't you see the connection? Android... Brainwashing... Enslavement of the human race?

You guys keep on with allowing your brain to be taken over by these symbols of human oppression, but I'm going to call up Verizon and ask them to promptly replace my phone with a Hello Kitty version!

Okay so I am new here and this is really my second post but, I am a 32 yo male who agrees with the OP. That is really not the purpose of my post though. I wanted to go on record with that. I know this is actually an old thread but since I am new I thought that the people who upped it wouldn't mind if I put my two pennies worth in. I feel bad for Don on many fronts after reading this thread. He came here for help and basically but a few posts received none. He came for guidance and advice and with the exception of a few received none. What Don did get from this thread was harassment and persecution. Is this how posters here treat other posters? Holy cow and I thought the IPhone people were brainwashed. It is clear that he is not speaking of Android as a whole he is speaking of his particular problem with his specific phone’s ability to change that which should be easy enough to change. IE.. A change to the default .jpg or such would be a great design. Again this is my second post and as a new member I have been subject to a forum that is very defensive and members who sound just like the owners of the phone to which they hate the most. I am speaking of the Iphone users. Every time you come up with a shortcoming of the Iphone, an Iphone user ignores, denies, or points out the things that it does well. Iphone users continue to attack individuals who by their thought process are too stupid to own an Iphone lest they would have one already. You see that Iphone is not just a phone it is a dream and a revolution just like apple itself and the god of all gods Steve Jobs. Don’t get me wrong Macs are good machines but, anything that costs three times as much than something I can build with the same processing power, memory, storage, and ease of access should be looked upon with malice.

Now back to my original theme. Don came under attack because he mentioned a shortcoming of one Android phone. He wasn't even asking for a ROM from here he just wanted some support for his letter to HTC about making the Green Robot optional. He was then berated and grinded because some of you have what I call the Iphone-itis. The thought that your phone is the best in the world and none is greater because it has more apps, more functions, and more enjoyment. So that is my diagnosis and here is my recommendation. Get over your stupid phones. I don’t just like phones I love them. I am a techaholic. I get my fix from computers, phones, new TVs, and everything else techy. What I have come to realize is that all things that are made by man have faults. Be it buggy software code or be it crappy hardware. They all have something wrong with them. There is the problem and here is the solution. We have many resources to us as android users called programmers. Since it is such an open source product we have the ability to change the little things that the original code boys screwed up on. I know everyone here hates Windows phones but to a certain extent with pirated ROMs they have the same ability. On the windows forums I belong to I have only once seen a lashing such as this and the members that did the lashing were banned for a time. If you really love your phone that is one thing but to make someone feel stupid because he thinks his phone has a fault is just plain ridiculous. Grow up and be kinder to your fellow android user. As we grow so too does the support needed. Cell companies don’t care about users as much as they do about user’s money. We can’t rely on them for tech support we can only rely on the communities that have formed with knowledgeable individuals to point us in the correct direction.

Thank you
Andrew

I'm pretty sure Don could have changed that, just like the boot image, and the splash screen. Though it might have required Root Access :S

No offense, but if he wanted to be respected more, he should have learned a "grown up" way to properly word his request. If he came in here asking simply how to change the Android logo to something else, fine..

That, AND that he was told how to do it, but that method required some effort on his part. He wanted Google to change all handsets to suit him.

Additionally, I took offense to his labeling anyone who didn't have an issue with it as immature. Chances are at least 50/50 that I'm older than him.

ETA:
P.s. I was sick to ****in' death of this thread months ago. Can't we just let it die?

I agree with Don that the Android logo is childish. It doesn't portray the sort of professional or smart image that people who aren't geeks are likely to want. I'm afraid that it could mean that the growth of the Android platform as a whole is likely to suffer. Let's face it - smartphones aren't a necessity for the vast majority of people. They are aspirational objects that say a lot about their owners.

The people who came up with the Android branding are by definition geeks rather than designers. They are the sort of people who still dream of owning a lightsaber. The time when smart and clever design becomes equally important to the android platform as smart and clever functionality is the time that android will become the dominant force in the smartphone/internet device market.

As a geek who has to present a very professional image at work, I admire the platform while feeling rather dismayed by its lack of polish.

So...a guy with a bachelor's in Computer Science (Andy Rubin), another with a DOCTORATE'S degree in Computers (Rich Miner) and a the former VP of T-Mobile (Nick Sears) are geeks that still dream of lightsabers....nice...

It is a KNOWN fact that Andy Rubin loves robots... My suggestion is that those of you with gripes about the OS logo should come up with your own OS and slap it with your logo of choice (should seriously consider the pic on my avatar). Good Luck!

I cannot believe I wasted my time reading this whole thread. I loved every minute of it though.

I empathize with Don and agree with him to a point and would change the logo on unknown contacts if I could, but come on he was getting a little worked up about an icon...an icon. In the grand scheme of life, it's still just a little icon displayed for 20 seconds or so. Sheesh!
