Help Resetting device for speed?

Hi folks

I have had a disastrous month. My car needed fixed and cost me a small fortune, and my S4 screen broke.

I plan to use my S2 until I can bring myself to pay for the s4 lcd fix.

My S2 is pretty slow now it has to be said.
Its running on Android version 4.1.2

If I took my SD card out and reset my phone to factory settings would the speed be much improved?

Root and install a custom rom 👍

Ive never done roms before. Would a standard reset still be better?
