Help [Resolved: factory reset]Power Save keeps switching on

I have an issue with my HTC One where the Power save mode keeps turning itself on & therefore dims the screen, disables screen rotation and takes the phone off vibrate.

I have turned off the power save so its not on but yet when the phone reaches below 30% battery life it goes into power save mode.

Spoken to HTC and they suggested doing a wipe cache partition in bootloader which I did and it worked for a day and then stopped working.

theyve now suggested a full reset which I dont want to do unless i have to.

Im running 4.2.2

any suggestions?

cheers

Bart

This is the behavior of power save. you mean the leaf icon app right? ;)

when the one i use would get to that level, the app turns on. its designed to do this...

you can turn it off during normal battery power but once it gets to a certain threshold, it WILL activate on its own...

I understand how the functionality works.

what I am saying is that I have turned OFF power save mode.

therefore as the battery drains this should not kick in.

yet on my phone the mode is becoming active even though it is turned OFF.

thanks Bart

Power save mode, if you have it turned off, WILL COME ON by itself when battery level hits a certain threshold. Even if you have it off, it WILL come on by itself.

the setting is working normally. you can not fully deactivate power save mode from kicking in on a stock non rooted device.

I think you can go into the setting and check what the app manages when its on. I am going by memory on this...

clear as mud now? :D

You memory is good, I just checked on mine. Settings > Power, then select the power saver settings and you can turn on/off the 4 things it controls individually.

It may be that toggling all 4 off will mean that the power saver doesn't actually do anything, but I'd not be surprised if you still get the icon in the notifications when you drop below the threshold! As Marc says, it's not that turning power save off disables it, rather that turning it on means it is on all of the time rather than just when the battery is running low.

I thought there used to be a setting where you could choose the threshold that the power saver kicked in at, but I can't seem to find it. Maybe it is hard coded now. Or was it a figment of my imagination?

Dunno. I don't have it on mine either, but couldn't say for sure that it's never been there - I also sort of remember this, but whether as part of an earlier version, or a custom ROM, or, as you say, a figment, I can't be sure.

I have to disagree here.
The power save mode is not on as default and doesnt kick in.
Unless you set power save to turn on and therefore get the notification in the top the phone should not go into any power save settings.
My phone didnt do any of this until I 1st turned on Power Save and then tried to turn it off.
I have done a reset on the phone using my HTC Account back up and it took no time at all.

This issue no longer exists. And for some reason the battery life has improved as well.

cheers Bart

Well I have to say that it's always done that with mine at 15%, with stock 4.1.2, stock (rooted) 4.2.2, custom 4.2.2 and custom 4.3. And I never turn power save on, and have done a number of factory resets (comes with flashing ROMs).

Guess there are variations with different builds. :)

You may have had other issues going on, but I also have to disagree, that on stock non rooted htc ones and possibly other models, power save will come on even if it is off. Could be different behaviors between carriers but i have (now have the htc max) the htc one and with power save off and not running (I go to apps and force stop it), the animal will pop up and come on at a certain threshold.

no worries mate, you have your phone back to normal and thats what matters... :)
