ReSpot - Spotify Remote for Android

Doesn't work for me, I get "Could not connect to Servify, i/o exception - chosen connection may be unavailable."

Could be many reasons for this.

Make sure you are connecting to the correct IP address. Most likely it starts with 192.168... or 10.0...

If it's something else it may be your public IP (ie: the one you connect to the internet with) - in that case you must unlock the servify port in your router and forward it to the servify computer. However i'd suggest using the WiFi connection and your lan adresses.

Also make sure there's no firewall blocking Servify.

new version released. be sure to update servify too!

UPDATE 2010.04.28
x) Seeking!
x) Playlist fix(!?)
x) Bitrate configurable
x) Small UI bug fixes

yup - now possible to seek in tracks!

The Server component has been re-written in C# and now uses the official API from spotify - making it alot more stable and future proof than the old de-spotify based solution.

There are still a few bugs in the C# server to weed out - but please give it a try and report bugs to me!

So. ReSpot got a big face lift!

Some functionality stripped out, but rest assured - it's coming back as soon as i figure out a nice way to add it back in the UI.

The Desktop version of the 'remote' has been released. It's an alpha version so quite alot of bugs and rough UI.

Try it out and let me know what you think...

I really like this app and look forward to further developments. I had previously tried "Spotify Remote" but ReSpot seems to be better designed and more stable. It is going to be particularly useful for parties etc.

I appreciate that this is a work in progress but here are my early observations, apologies if these have already been discussed elsewhere:

I am more of a music lover than a techie, so I had to get some help with setting it up, perhaps you could look at making a set-up procedure for people like myself.

The search functionality needs some work, i.e. it would be good to be able to search for artist, album or track, or at least enqueue an album from the search results.

I noticed today that the shuffle function was repeating songs recently played from an enqueued playlist.

An excellent start though, I'm really impressed with what you're doing, as I said I'm not a techie but it feels like a good product is being developed here.

JM :)

I hope so, even though there are stability issues with Servify / ReSpot still they're not too common (i think..).

Yep, it's a bit complicated - with Android 2.2 there's now a possibility to improve here with "zeroconf", it will make IP and PORT information transparant so that users should not need to be bothered with it. But it requires some coding in the client and server - something which I must find the time to do.

Agreed, need to improve a bit here!

Proper repeat/shuffle should be implemented, and better indication in the client of which mode is active.

Thanks a lot for the kind words and taking the time to give feedback. I read all the feedback and take it into consideration, unfortunately I've been out of time to do any major improvements the last couple of weeks. I hope to get more time during Q4!

Servify/J is compiled with Java 1.6 so you'll need that version.

"java -version"
should tell you what's installed.

good luck!

I'm also very curious to try this app. Can't get servify working yet.. I think an older version of java is my problem.

Running Mac OS 10.5.8

Installed JavaForMacOSX10.5Update7

When I do the java -version in OSX terminal it tells me:

xxx:~ xxx$ java -version
java version "1.5.0_24"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_24-b02-357-9M3165)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_24-149, mixed mode, sharing)

Thoughts?

edit: gonna try upgrading to Snow Leopard and see where that gets me. will let you know.

are you trying to use jReSpot, the desktop client?

for the android client there's no need of java on the server.
the server of choice should be Servify/C# , just make sure to install the Mono framework!

good luck and let me know if it doesnt work out for you, i'll be happy to help.

I'm running the Windows version of Spotify on Linux through Wine, so I'm trying to do the same thing with ReSpot and I'm hitting a bit of a snag with Servify.

It prompts me for my username, and as soon as I enter that and hit enter, it spits out the following without giving me a chance to enter my password or anything:

Code:
Password: Ooops! Something went wrong. Make sure that the 'ListenPort' and 'Bitrate' only contains numbers (0-9)

Servify Server listening on port: '0'
Servify Server IP Address 0: 192.168.1.9
