Root Restore ICS Nand to Get facebook notifications again.

If you're not getting messages or updates from facebook after the JB update do this.
This works 100%

Boot into recovery and make a backup!
Restart recovery.
Restore a ICS nand and reboot.
Log out of facebook then reboot to recovery.
Restore the JB nand.
Reboot to JB, clear chache and data for Facebook and messenger.
Open the facebook app and enter login info.

Now you should start getting the notifications.

Wait, not getting Facebook notifications in JB is a thing? Does anyone else have this happen to them recently? I thought it was just because I restored a backup I made on ICS of Facebook's data using Helium (aka Carbon).

It happened on the reverb and on my ZTE warp once also, if you log out before the JB update you wont get the issue. It just depends on how many devices you're logged into, in my case after 5 it stopped giving me notifications. Thats why I tested this to make sure it worked.

Okay, I suppose a 5 device limit makes sense. Maybe I can dig up some help from Facebook's settings on their website.

EDIT: Oh yeah... found these under the security settings, it's labeled "Recognized Devices." I had 32 recognized devices, so I cleaned that up and I'm down to 7 devices now. I'm still not seeing notifications when the screen is off, but the a notification sound and vibration does happen when I have the app open on the screen.

I suppose I'll go ahead and attempt this fix you've found.

I wasn't getting notifications either. Didn't really take notice until I read this thread. Didn't want to go through reflashing and reinstalling everything just for that. Found another thread for a different phone about the same thing with 4.1.2. Solution listed as simply uninstalling and reinstalling Facebook. I did that and now I'm getting notifications.

I wish it would have been that simple, and it honestly should be because I've gone through quite a few ROM installs without logging out of Facebook on the previous installation and never had this kind of problem. But it wasn't the case after force stopping and clearing data or uninstalling and reinstalling the affected apps. So I'm in the middle of doing a nand backup as per OP's instructions. So fingers crossed because frankly it's a silly problem to have in the first place. :\
