resurrection root problems

Hello guys,
Well I finally bit the bullet being sick of the pretty lazy official update for sgs2 and decided to have a crack at rooting the phone and try out a custom ROM. All was going well...too well. I followed the following "how to" to the T and it worked perfectly...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
After this I flashed the following ROM and it is on there fine.
Resurrection ICS ROM v.2.5.3 for Galaxy S2 i9100! [Jelly Bean Transitions][Best ROM] | Galaxy S2 Root
I really like it and have found no problems but one, a pretty big one for me living in the sticks with bad reception. The WiFi doesn't work and when I press it to turn on it stays stuck at "Turning Wi-Fi on...".
Any ideas what this could be? I think looking at other custom ROM errors on the net that it could be the Kernel? The rooting process I did means that I don't have to put on fake kernel which I thought was a win-win. My kernel after the flash I think is about the same, the letters in the middle are anyway (BVLPB) but then it has some other stuff after what the original one was (SMP PREEMPT Wed Apr 4 23:23:21 KST 2012). Is this something to do with it? If so any ideas on a fix? If not any ideas what else it could be?
I factory reset and wiped cache/davlik cache and re-flashed the ROM through CWM again but didn't work.

Thanks in advance guys...

from my own experience

for wifi you need a decent kernel, may i suggest either Siyah or Dark knight ( i get better wifi with darkknight but overall smoothness with siyah)

siyah = SiyahKernel for S2 & S3 | "One kernel to rule them all" (make sure you download the sgs2 kernel)

darkknight = Download | CheckROM (again make sure its for sgs2)

as for your modem, currently im on NELP4 which is designed for 3 network and its the best modem ive ever tried, others like XXLQ5 try a few till you find one you like

Index of /radios/

all the links i posted are CWM flashable zips so if its not right for you, easy as **** just flash something new, there are kernel cleaning scripts that you can use (just search these forums for Hawkers)

OK i got lazy

may i suggest a rom to you ? its called rootbox and its by far the best AOKP rom out there atm.

I have tried all the roms on XDA for our device and this one is an absolute rock.

download rom to internal
factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
format system (mounts and storage)
install Rootbox
in aroma installer choose your desired kernel etc etc etc
flash nelp4
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
fix permissions
reboot device

Hi thanks for quick reply. I have downloaded rootbox...unfortunately ran into another problem. Downloaded to computer to easily transfer to a space CWM can see. USB connection doesn't seem to work either with this ROM.
So took forever downloading direct to phone and now I cant move it from external SD to internal USB mem. Do you know if the internal memory is visible at all using a file manager on phone? If so what the location is called? I know the stock file manager can find it but third party ones (including the one that came with this ROM) I cant find it. I know I used to have list of locations; android, (some others), external SD...this is the same as what it shows me in CWM.
Now with the file managers it is acct, cahce, config...and I cant find a file that CWM can see to flash new ROM.
By the way my CWM won't look into the external SD, just goes back to root. Don't know if that's normal?
I am thinking perhaps I should cut my losses and try again from scratch but I'm curious, I went into the CWM GUI when I first rooted and selected "Backup Current ROM". Is this all I needed to DO? Do you know where the ROM is stored? I have read around that people make Nandroid backups. Is that what I have done?
Sorry if I am being a real noob hopefully I will get the hang of it soon. But the majority of this would be a lot easier to do if either my USB connection would work or WiFi.

external sd card is usable from recovery - mounts and storage > mount sdcaRD

emmc is internal storage, have you looked in there?

and yes you did a nandroid backup

hmm, i went in CWM recovery> mount/unmount> mount sdcard.
looks like it worked because the option was then unmount sdcard. so I went back and tried going to external_SD and again it just refreshed the current page was in in root menu.
Is that emmc option in file explorer on the ICS GUI? I saw that in the mount/unmount option but cant find it in file explorer.
Nice, think Ill just flash that back. do you know where that stores by any chance so I can flash it back? Or do I just use the "Install ROM from SD Card" on the CWM GUI or have to go back to recovery, wipe and format etc again and flash it from there?

Oh no no no. I tried the restore option going into CWM Recovery, wipe cache etc etc then backup / restore > restore then it came up with MD5 mismatch. Thought I would go back and wait patiently for answers and rebooted the phone. Now stuck on Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100! Have I killed it?

If you can get into download mode, just download your stock firmware, flash it through Odin, and start the process over with a clean slate.
