If any of your contacts were in Google, they should still be around on their servers. You can check that if you use Google Chrome as your browser on a PC and also have a GMail/Google account. The Contacts list in GMail should also be available on your phone. On your phone, go to Contacts/Settings/Accounts and Sync. There you can define accounts to synchronize with. Enter the details of your Google gmail account, activate auto-sync and your gmail contacts will be downloaded into your phone.
Note also (though it is too late for that now, sadly) that you can backup your contacts to the SD card in your phone so can later re-import them if anything goes wrong.

Are you sure you deleted them and didn't just apply a filter so they are not showing (very common mistake).
