Help Retrieving lost sms

I installed a different messaging app and lost all my texts from 1 number. I never deleted them, they just disappeared from both messaging apps. I have tried wondershare and it's says my phone needs to be rooted. I tried to root my phone and cannot. Is there another possible way?

Not that i know of no, at least not without a rooted device. Maybe someone else can add to this.

Unless you already made a backup you probably can't recover them even with a rooted device. Most of these tools don't actually work.

I've never heard of one conversation spontaneously disappearing before. The fact that neither app can see them suggests that they have been deleted, but if the new app has a blacklist feature maybe check you haven't accidentally blacklisted/blocked that contact.
