Root return to leaked 1.66

Is it possible to return to the leaked 1.66 version? Since the 1.70 update battery life is terrible and data connection is spotty at best, and much more lag. Previously this was pretty much a flawless phone.

your best bet is to try and return to a custom rom based on that firmware, that has had its "updater" parts removed. you wont be able to stay on a stock firmware,as your phone realizes its out of date and will constantly pester you to update it.

this is assuming youre rooted,of course. if not, then id root and run maybe "perfect storm 1.5",or research, there may be some other good options. im unfamiliar with the froyo roms at this point.

Thanks, I have not rooted as yet, but was just wondering if this was a good option outside of rooting. I believe if I use the leaked 1.66 I won't be prompted to update, or maybe I should just wait for the gingerbread update.

If you want to give that a try, just follow the directions for non root users in jcase's return to stock thread, and substitute the 1.66 ruu for the 1.12 ruu. There is a link in the sticky root methods thread(I'm on the road so I can't link it) good luck :)

Is it not possible to just flash the 1.66 , being not rooted? or is going back to a previous version the reason for having to use the un-rooting method.

Trying to go backwards will result in a "main version higher" error, thanks to your s-on bootloader.
