Returning CDMA Hero to Stock for reactivation

I've been beating my head against the wall on this issue for a couple of days and decided it was time to do what guys generally don't do - ask for help.

I have a Sprint HTC Hero that I rooted and had CM7 installed on. I just upgraded to an HTC EVO 4G and my wife wants my old Hero.

To reactivate it, I was told that I needed to be on the stock ROM. Figured out that with CM7 installed, that I couldn't get there from here, so I flashed a Sense ROM - Zero Hero Sense 3.5. Now I just can't seem to figure out how to get from ZHS 3.5 to stock.

I've tried the HTC Android ROM Update utility, but it keeps giving me an error telling me that it can't connect to the phone, even though I have it setup to access the SD card.

So, the next thing I tried was flashing HERCIMG.zip from the bootloader. Phone goes through looking for HERCDIAG.ZIP, HERCDIAG3.nbh, 2.nbh....and finally finds, says "loading HERCIMG.zip", verifies it and when it's done it comes back to HBOOT. Doesn't appear to apply the ROM because when I reboot, I'm back to Zero Hero.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks!

I would just grab the Android 2.1 with HTC Sense RUU and restore it that way. You will need HTC Sync as well to perform that.

You can grab both here: HTC Hero . Just install HTC Sync, then run the executable for the Android 2.1 with HTC Sense RUU. You should be back to stock in no time.

He tried an HTC Sense-based ROM and it would not work for him. That is why I figured he could try the stock Android 2.1 with HTC Sense RUU.

Either way, I hope one of us has helped to solve his issue. Cheers.

Thanks much for the responses guys. Finally got it working. Ended up flashing LiquidSense, which is pretty darned close to stock. Once I did that, I had no problem re-activating the phone on my wife's phone number

Now all I have to do is reflash CM7 and all is well.

Appreciate the help.

Just went back and re-read! Some how missed the ROM hje tried paragraph...
Damn ADD! HAHA.

Looks like he was trying a sense 3.5 which the little hero never got.
Needs to be a 2.1 supported ROM to Activate properly...I guess!
