returning droid 2.

im done with this phone.. at first the battery seemed like it would get better ; but no. today i had it in my pocket background data off & brightness @ 0% .. ALL DAY texted twice & got one incoming call that i ignored .. i get out of school & i had 30% battery.. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! im bringing it back next week to switch for the samsung fascinate. anyone else having 2nd thoughts or doing the same?

There are a number of settings that could be affecting your battery life and if you have not already done so you may also want to look at the following:

We initially had a defective Droid 2 that along with other problems had terrible battery life, however the exact same configuration and use with the replacement Droid 2 is providing significantly better battery life and we're quite happy with it now.
 
Coming from the Eris my Droid2 has AMAZING battery life. Granted only settings i have on are Sync, (Turned off Wi-fi and GPS) and i have ATK which doesn't kill the weather ,facebook, and Engadget apps. Oh also i leave it in Performance mode, without Live Wallpaper (Live wallpaper and performance mode murdered the battery I was lucky to come home from work with 20-30% bat). Even with me playing with the phone for most of the day and me running in and out of reception at work (Warehouse shift lead) I still go home after a 12 hr day with 50-60% battery life. Obviously results vary if I rock out on YouTube during my breaks but ya kno, I would honestly look into a new battery.
 
well when i first came to verizon i wanted the fascinate but i heard it wouldnt be released till november ; but now its coming out next week so i figured id get it while im still in my 30 days (bigger better screen,better camera,720p video,very thin & i rather touchwiz 3.0 than motoblur..
 
Went to work took phone off charger at 740am. Listened to music for 3 or 4 hrs, surfed web for 2 hrs, and txted roughly 20 times. Now im home at 8pm and battery is 60% :D. Background data was off, brightness 25%, and Max battery setting. For doing all that I did in 12hrs im very content.

i def got a defective battery then.. i wont lie im kinda tempted by the blackberry bold 9650 =0 ive never had a berry..:confused:
 
Came from the berry 9650 No comparison to the droid. Two different animals. Both great phones but if you go to the BB you will miss your droid!!
 
It could be that I've "trained" my battery. Everyone says to drain it to 0 then charge 100 before turning one at least once. I did this twice last week. They say the battery gets better over time and Id have to agree. Today is my 2nd week with the phone so if you've had it that long or longer and aren't satisfied, then by all means get a new phone. At the time, I couldn't imagine myself having any other phone really.

I did this for the first week and noticed a difference. I for one, was pretty unimpressed with the battery for the first few days, so I did this and it jumped up a bit. Then I downloaded the app JuiceDefender, and dear jesus my battery is awesome. I unplugged Monday at 6AM and spent 2 hours of 3g web browsing, 4 hours of wi-fi web browsing, 6 hours of music playback, 50 texts, and a few quick calls with games thrown in there some. Brightness at 15% (I never see the need to go much above this, the default brightness is pretty high) and I finally dipped into the orange around 7PM Tuesday night. Plugged up around 12 that night still having 15% battery. So you could say I really like JuiceDefender :)

All in all, I went over 36 hours before it hit orange, and 41 hours off the hook I still had 15% battery left

Now, I have to warn you, the interface on JuiceDefender is balls terrible. I downloaded it once, played with it for 10 minutes and got fed up. Trusted the review i read about it and went back. Free app bumped up battery a good bit, paid helped set timers for only 2.99. Great deal imo. Just gotta test things out with the interface.

It also tells you how much you are saving at any time, right now for example I'm at 2.10x of the normal battery, playing around earlier I got up to 2.26x the normal battery life. I've seen evo users get over 3x :eek:
 
The Fascinate is the same as the Captivate and Vibrant with the Samsung Super AMOLED screens. They have larger capacity batteries than the Droids and they last several hours less than the Droids.

Lithium Ion batteries don't have a "memory" and don't need to be fully drained and stuff. That's the NiCd and NiMH batteries. Lithium Ions are best kept somewhere between drained and 100% Fully draining and fully charged all the time will decrease the lifespan of the battery faster.
 
i originally started my "Smart" phones wit my sidekicks.. got an iphone then instantly got the droid 2.. but trust me i tried everything with the battery. its not me ; the berry looks good but the interface i dont like. my friends say id love it because they do know how i am. but i LOVE the fascinate.. but if its not available on the 9th i have no choice but to switch

This is not knocking the Droid 2 in any way, but if you see a larger screen, better camera, 720p video and very thin form factor as things that would lead you to change phones and you don't seem to mind losing the physical keyboard or running Android 2.1, this sort of begs the question of why you purchased a Droid 2 rather than a Droid X? Was it a matter of availability? Just curious.

well the droid x is TOO big for me.. & i dont like the hump in the back.. i dont NEED a physical keyboard but i thought it would be better for emu's .. it wasnt that much better (but from engadget seems the fascinate is a definite for next week so im like 95% gonna get it)

& by the way.. day 2 of school NO USE AT ALL didnt touch it from 7:33 to 2:17 (@ 733 it was at 100% battery) & i get out.. bam 50% there is something wrong.
 
The Droid 2 has a longer rated talk time than the X, by 1 hr 40 min. And the X gets very good battery life.

And thats with it having a smaller battery than the X...(1390 mAh vs. 1540 mAh on the X)

As of right now, the Droid 2 has the best battery life of any current Android phone. U either need to do the full drain and charge: train the battery, have a bad battery, or have a bad phone.

display 70%
Standby 24%
Idle 8%

I still have 20+ % left on my battery.

You definitely have your phone updating with intensive widgets and apps too often.
 
Full drain and charge on these batteries is not necessary...running them down to 20 to 30 percent is more than enough...it can take a few cycles for the battery to perform at its best.

You should drain them fully once every few months to help keep the battery status in sync.

No use doesn't automatically the phone isn't in use on its on. If you've installed apps that run in the background and use a lot of data services, then it could be doing it. Some people's issues may be that they don't pay close attention to what apps they have installed and what those apps are doing. Not saying that's you, but is this a possibility?

no i have facebook & twitter update every 2 hours.. + sportcenter i barely use anything.. there is no way in hell its my fault i know how to conserve batteries i am 100% positive its defective.. im giving it a chance right now i drained it to dead & now im charging it while off & waiting to get 100%
 
I agree about the Berry. I have had a D1 since Nov. and was getting a little frustrated with it (I'm sure most of it my fault) and when Verizon offered me a out of nowhere upgrade I jumped on a 9650. That was on Tuesday and it only took me till today to exchange it for the D2. Once you have gone Android nothing else will suffice.
 
I had my phone off the charger for 14hrs before it beeped 15% warning at me. Played like 15 mins of Devilry Huntress, 1hr of Angry Birds, messed with Talking Tom for like 20mins through out the day, took 4 pictures gps tagging on, sent/recieved about 20 texts, internet for 20mins, phone calls for like 5mins. Facebook app like 5mins. Uploaded 2 videos to Facebook, sent one through gmail. SoundHound 14 songs. Downloaded 3 apps. I keep gps and autosync on.

I don't know if you're doing something different with syncing or apps but somethings wrong. And I don't think you'll be fascinated by the Samsung. All those Galaxy S phones get 40% less battery life than the DX and D2.
 
Assuming the Fascinate has the same battery life as the Vibrant, Captivate, and Epic 4G, the Fascinate's battery life will be worse than the Droid 2's just so you know.

That apparently can depend on the use. Tests based on 'typical' use, which apparently includes quite a bit of web surfing, seem to find the Galaxy S phones to have below average battery life. However, the Galaxy S devices seem to have prioritized watching videos and gaming applications in both the hardware and their advertising. The Super AMOLED displays on the Galaxy S phones use no power to display black but require more power to display white, so they're much more efficient doing things like viewing movies with dark backgrounds than they are surfing web sites with white backgrounds.
