Help Rezound/"Beats"/Music app/Verizon/Confusion

H20nly

Newbie
Hi,

I am trying to figure out what I need to do to enjoy the "implied" experience with Beats headphones that come with a Rezound. I have searched the threads, but I am getting a little weary of reading the same things over and over about the phone from post to post... while none of them actually answer my question. So, in the interest of saving some of my time... I am going to ask those who have gone before me... namely you lot.

When I got this phone I was under the impression that it simply had better audio than most. Then I found out it was the earbuds... BUT that they have to work with a certain app (I think).

So which app? Music, the green music app?
If so, that one wants to connect to a Verizon account (which won't work for me). I was going to buy a song just to find out where it gets stored on the phone; to no avail. Maybe due to being linked to a business account??

Can I move a few .mp3 files into a (the) folder where they are stored for this app to work? If so, where is that folder??? It is not clear to me while browsing the SD card. I don't have any music on the phone because I can't get any music on the phone and I feel like I'm going round in circles here...

Any advice and/or direction would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for replying. I cannot find a directory called "music".

I am not seeing "sdcard2" either, but I am assuming that I am in the right spot since I am browsing the SD card from my PC.

this is the path that I did just try though:

G:\mp3download

G:\ being the drive letter assigned to the SD card in Windows.

That worked. So, you at least confirmed the app for me and that got me to try again FTW!

Okay... I have the "music" folder now. I went to the Verizon website and setup VCast... I downloaded a song... when the phone received the song... the folder was created.

The problem with this is... it's a business account. Now I have to explain to my boss why I owe the company $1.29 I wish there was a secondary payment option. I would think twice before I wanted a teenager in the house able to do what I just did... while TRYING not to do what I just did. There was no final opt out message or this will be billed to the CC ending in XXXX - 1234 etc.

*sigh*

Thanks again for your reply. I hope this extra information will help make sense out of it for the next person who is scratching their head.

I wish I had seen your post before you had to waste $1.29. You can just create your own folder called Music on your sd card and place all of your music in there. "sdcard2" is actually call "ext_sd" when using most android file managers and it is the removable sd card. The other sdcard is the built in memory. The external memory shows up as the 2nd removable drive when you are connected to a computer.
The music actually doesn't need to be in folder call "Music" or in any folder at all to take advantage of the Beats audio enhancement. The music player will recognize audio files as music as long as it is not in a folder call "Alerts" or "Notifications" or isn't in a folder that contains a file called ".nomedia". It's just good sense to have a folder call "Music" to keep things organized" I actually just copied all of the folders from my PC's iTunes library into my music folder and it worked without a problem.
You can use any headphones that you want to but you do have to use the headphone jack. Beats enhancement doesn't work on the external speakers of bluetooth. The Beats headphones are just a higher end version of earbuds. There are apps in the play store that give you more audio control than the Beats does and they work with the external speaker and bluetooth as well.

The rezound actually does sound pretty good for a phone, the ibeats while probably the best ear buds to ever come with any phone, are not in the grand scheme of things all that great. The "beats" audio is just a horrific EQ curve that works well with crappy earphones and pop music. You aren't missing much, pick up your fave cans, plug em in and enjoy.

thanks for the info.

@ AeolianReflex - what about album art? i don't see a directory for that. the song i purchased for 1.29 came with cover art, but the tracks I imported to the folder called "mp3download" do not show any art... even though... I did place the art in an images folder in the "mp3download" directory. Did your iTunes library transfer bring images with it?

My quick guess is that the art is part of the mp3 file that was downloaded, but if there's a trick/folder I'm missing, I'd love to know.

thanks again.

If the album art isn't "embedded" in the mp3 you can dump a jpg in the same folder as the music usually and it will show up

Yeah, when I copied my iTunes music folders the album art came with them so they show up perfectly in the stock music player and the other players that I have tried on Android as well. They are not part of the mp3 file. I did check several of the music folders for different albums and they all have an image called Folder.jpg file and there are couple of other images called AlbumArtLarge.jpg and AlbumArtSmall.jpg in each album folder. All of them are the same image and I am assuming that those are created by iTunes when assigning album art to a song. I've never tried just copying a .jpg file into a folder to use as album art but if you were to name an image file as I described it might work. I think that will be rather tedious if you have a lot of different albums. I am pretty anal about keeping my iTunes library organized and making sure that things like album art is the same for each song on the album, artist names & genres are right, etc and it has really paid off when I transfer songs. It's easy to do in iTunes and not so easy on Android.

I forgot, I remember my album art being way screwed up and found a couple apps in the market for album art fixing. They all seemed to work ok for the most part, my collection has grown over the last 10 years from various sources so it was a wreck. just search album art in the play store.

Media Monkey does a good job if you have the files on your pc as well before your going to copy them over.
