Help Rezound Global

I know there are two or three long threads about the Rezound being a global phone... or at least internally the global capabilities are lurking but is it officially now apart of the Verizon global phone roll out they are doing ?

Also, is the new ICS going to help the phone become global or will hamper it ... or neither ?

So many phone blogs & web pages seem to just copy each other's info, thought I'd come here to get a little light shed on this topic.

Verizon announced earlier this year that the Rezound would go GLOBAL sometime this Summer.

Some has thought that this would be part of the ICS update...

Now, the 2 previous leaks have not included this option. So either Verizon will OTA out a small update to included it or it may be a "paid" service... No one knows...

The phone currently does have the ability to go global, but you must be rooted.

I recently got back to the US from a trip to England. Verizon now has a free global rental option for short trips. I don't know if there's a limit to the number of times it's used, but you have to have the rental phone returned within a 30 day period, so it's best used for trips less than 3 weeks in duration. You can't pick the phones up from stores, which means you have to pay shipping, but return shipping is included.

The phone I got was a Moto Z6c or something like that ... just a dumb phone for emergency calls only. My Rezound worked on wifi at no cost while I was there (for email, facebook and the like). The cost for phone calls was an astounding $1.29/min if you didn't have an international plan ($5/mo).

The Rezound did NOT work globally, which was good because the Mb cost is outstandingly expensive ... I didn't want to accidently use it!

The global phone gets activated on a current line on your account (replacing an existing phone). I used a rarely used phone line just to avoid messing with my "unlimited data" line! (I'm not taking any chances with that one!)

This plan is quite new ... about three months ago I checked into global options and this was not available. A week before my trip I stumbled onto it.

Hope this helps someone!

I went to Hong Kong recently and followed the instructions on the web for using a local SIM card. I was able to get local phone calls working, and I could receive texts, but I couldn't send texts or use 3G/4G data. For my purposes, this was good enough, since I mainly just needed to be able to make calls and receive them. Data would have been nice, but I think it costs a lot, so it's probably a good thing I didn't have it working.

Data i think depends on the Int;l SIM card used and if it has a data plan. I have one sim that doesn't include data, and another that charges a lot for it.

Send txts requires adjustment to phone to get it working. (found in the xda forums long thread)

menu used for global is still available in ICS. haven't tried my Int'l SIM on ICS yet though.
