Ring and Repeat SMS for One Contact

Hey Everyone,

I have recently started a new job and we have a paging system should something go wrong. The page comes in as an SMS that was sent via email.

Now, I want to be rung even if my phone is set to silent. In addition to that, I want to be able to have a reminder set until the text is read. I have searched but can't seem to find a way to do this other than having every text set to be reminded. Or the app needs a special code in it to turn the ringer on. Or it needs a phone number whitelist. As stated, it comes from an email address not a phone number.

Does anyone have any idea for this? I am fine even if I have to have multiple apps running.

I use Handcent and would like to keep that as my default messaging app if possible.

The paid version of Lightflow can do this (the free version would also do this, but only if you were using the stock messaging app).

Lightflow can "override silent mode" or vibrate mode for sounds alerts.

Also Lightflow can set SMS alerts to be unique depending on contact name for light color (depending on your hardware), sound, vibration, how often the sound repeats, etc.

For example, this contact can be set to: when you receive an SMS from this contact you will get a red alert, that overrides silent or vibrate mode, the screen will turn on for 5 seconds and the red will flash very quickly, with this unique alert sound every 30 seconds until you turn it off manually (or whatever you choose it to be). And all other texts can be set to something less urgent.

Hi gtbarry,

Thanks for your response. Right before I purchased Lightflow, I decided to make one last search in the Google for an "Android Pager." Came across an application called Klaxon that does exactly what I needed. It allows you to set a search string for the sender, override the silent mode, and set a notification reminder in 10, 20, 30 seconds or 1 or 2 minutes.

FYI to get it to work I did need to disable Handcent's setting of "Default Messaging application" and also enabled "Lower priority." Not sure which one actually fixed the problem of the pages not going through.

The only problem that I have is I get notified by both Handcent and Klaxon even if I have Klaxon set to consume the SMS. However, if that is the worst of my problems I am not mad! If I remember, I will send the developer a note to see what he/she/they think.

I also found an app called FireAlert 2, but couldn't get it to work and it is also free like Klaxon. Just wanted it to be known in case someone else stumbled across this thread.

Thanks again!

Glad you found what you were looking for.

But in all honesty, some of that sounds a little convoluted. I recommend that you give LightFlow free edition a shot before you buy anything. It is full feature version of the app. It just works on fewer apps (for example it will work with gmail and not handcent). Try the free version on gmail, etc. and see if it works for you.

compared to some of what you mention above, LightFlow runs on top and requires no adjusting.
