Ring tone help?

Hello cheattowin.

The method of making ringtones from downloaded music depends on a few things, especially the version of Android OS you're using (and the phone, of course ;)).

If the music is in mp3 file format, it may just be a matter of long pressing the file, or hitting the menu button with the file on the screen, and making the right selection in that menu.

I see that you posted a question about rooting in the LG Esteem forum; do you have a rooted LG Esteem?

If you can download to the computer, you can use Audacity (free) Saves in many formats and you can cut and edit.

I use MID format. Harder to edit. But very tiny files. A 4 minute song might only be 17k, and the phone will play all of it.

You can also download the Ringdroid app. It does what Audacity does, but directly on your phone.

Using the phone for a straight ringtone might be OK. But if you want to customize by merging another bit of music in, the computer would be better. You really have to zoom in to see where you are editing. Even if you want the middle of an MP3 the larger the screen the easier it is to edit.
