Is it me or does the phone start soft and get louder on rings and notifications. When I get a text it doesn't seem as loud as when I select the text message tone in settings.

That feature is locked in stone and we can't change it.
However, you can change the type of ringer tone and the single tone beeper seems to be louder than the other type tones.
I have the "old time classic" bell sound of the phones from the 30s-50s and it starts out soft. hate it.....
