Help Ringtone stuck on one obnoxious announcement

I am a new Android user (Hey, welcome to the club!). I have a Samsung Captivate from Rogers (Canada) and am still on a steep learning curve with this. I installed some extra ringtones because I didn't like the default ones on the phone. I installed them where I was supposed to and they show up in the list of available ringtones. However, since I clicked on one and set it, I find it just too obnoxious in some social settings so went to change it to the "Our Man Flint" phone ring sound. It shows up in the list, I select it, it plays fine, I press OK, then go back to home. Call up my phone to test and it goes back to the obnoxious one. I have tried several things to get rid of the "ring ring ring, peek up dee telephone, ring ring!" including resetting it to any of the default sounds. It keeps the "ring ring..." anyway. Any suggestions?
