Help Ringtones assigned to contacts don't "stick"

I have a D2G, Version.2.4.330.A956.Version.en.US, Android version 2.2, not rooted.

I have used the Ringdroid app to create ringtones from MP3 files. I have assigned these ringtones to certain people in my contact list. However, sometimes when the contact calls, the phone uses the wrong ringtone... it may use the "general" ringtone (also created with Ringdroid), or it may use a ringtone assigned to a different contact. Yet, when I look at the contact setup, the correct ringtone is still shown as assigned to the contact.

Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be happening here?

Are you running a task killer? Basically, when the phone rings, there's a process that analyzes the incoming number to see if it's got a pre-assigned ringtone. If it doesn't finish in time, as can happen if a task killer has killed the process, or if you're underclocking your CPU too much, then the phone rings the default ringtone.I've never heard of it ringing the straight up WRONG ringtone before.

No task killer, just the stock D2G task manager (whatever that is). I also have not messed with the stock phone is any other way other than load certain apps. I know, its weird.

That task manager might be something the Verizon rep installed on your phone... and not a stock app.
That's what the chump that helped me did to my phone anyway....without even telling me.

Nah, the D2G comes with an app called Task Manager. It's useful enough for basic users to kill stubborn apps or processes. It also has an autokill feature, and it's one of the number one causes of problems across the forums haha.

Had the same problem - stock phone, no app killer - and still inconsistent ringtones (sometimes default ringtone instead of assigned ringtone, sometimes WRONG persons ringtone). Installed a new launcher ( I used ADW, but many also like Launcher Pro) and problem fixed.

I bought mine directly from VZW and it was shipped to my house, so I doubt it is anything more than bone stock.

Thanks for that... I may give another launcher a try (but as far as task launching itself goes, I really have no issue with the stock D2G).

My phone has done this too. On a few occasions it has used a ringtone that was completely wrong. Just yesterday, it rang my wife's ringtone when my brother called. They both have different ringtones assigned to their contact info.

I once plugged in my phone to a charger with different voltage/amps, and it screwed a bunch of things up... ringtones among other things.
But they stayed screwed up... I had to fix them.

Did it go back to normal for you?

Yes, it went back to normal. I rebooted the phone. I haven't figured out any correlation to anything. Your charger incident sounds interesting though. I think I had my phone plugged into a car charger both times that it happened.

Turned the phone complete off and then turned it back on and now the ringtones seem to be working correctly for all contacts. Will see how long it lasts..

Funny same thing happening to me - one minute my husband calls and it's his ringtone and then 5 mins later he calls and it's the default ringtone that I have set up.
