Help Ringtones missing after JB update

Got the JB update yesterday (EDT). So far, the phone works great. the update even helped me solve a nagging problem...OK, by causing a few of its own; but, still. So here's the deal: When my phone is connected to my computer, suddenly the phone uses bizarre tones for rings and notifications. It didn't used to do that before. The phone has of late been doing strange things when I take it off the computer; I get notifications that it's preparing internal storage and the SD card, which it never used to do before; and that started before the JB update. So I tried copying the ringtones via computer from the SD directories to the internal directories; then I rebooted the phone. Sometimes the proper ringtones are listed; sometimes I hear some very weird stuff. Any idea why this might be happening? Thanks, all.

Have you completed the factory data reset yet?

The update specified a reboot that would occur automatically, which it did. It said nothing about an FDR. And since I'm still looking for apps and data missing from the last FDR about two weeks ago, I'm not going through THAT again. FDR and I do NOT get along.
