Ringtones without an SD card?

I have no SD card yet (its on order now) but I have 20 tones already that I downloaded from Zedge - can I use them now for sms and ringtones without the card then just add them to the physical card once it arrives? I have tried but with no success. I am able to play them in the player just not assign them as....

My only guess is it is because I have no SD card yet. I searched the forum but found no topic quite like this.

Thanks for any info

I don't have an SD card yet either, mine are on the phone.

Under My Folders, go to media, then audio and set up two new folders. One called ringtones and the other called notifications and put your music in the folder you want it for and it will be available when you go to change the ringtone/notification.

Thanks.

Will have to take a look @ this when I get home. I am not quite sure I understand just yet since I dont know where "my folders" are or "Media"

I know of folders as a shortcut thing and my files but I dont recall media anywhere. Only had it a few days BUT I will sort it out. Thanks for the tip again

Ah yes, it's "My Files" in the app drawer. Under My Files, scroll down to media. I can't remember if the next two folders were there by default so if you don't see media, just create it through the menu key at the very bottom of the phone. Then go to/create audio folder. Then create the ringtones and the notifications folders under audio. Then you should be set. :)

Oh yeah, after you put your music in one of the two new folders. Go to Settings in the app drawer. Then scroll down to "Sound and display". Then the music you put in should be under "Voice call ringtone" and "Notification ringtone".

Thanks again for the info. Sadly it just wont work for me and I have no clue why. I have tried many things. Even read a thread where Baldilocks said the same thing as you did but it wont work.

I tried making it the way you described and when that did not work I removed everything (usb) and then added them back under just a Ringtones folder - no success

The path is /sdcard/ringtones = failed
The path of /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones = failed

Another funny issue is when I play the song I hit menu and set as "voice call ringtone" and nothing happens, nothing. I did manage to get it to show once but the next call I got still sounded the default ringtone I did not want.

Not sure what is up with my phone or more than likely me. I have never had issues with the half dozen blackberries I have owned as well as other devices.

I know the physical card should work more easily ( I hope ) but since others, like you, are using this system without a physical card I am stumped as to why I cant get it to work or show up under
settings/sounds and display/voice call ringtone

When I get my card in on Tuesday I hope to put this issue to bed - thanks again for trying to help me

I think the phone doesn't like your files - I don't think having an SD card will change a thing.

Hmmm

I got them all from Zedge.net

They are all mpga files. I added a few I used on my Blackberry before to my phone, same result - fail

I believe those files might be the issue. Will toss some mp3 (even though they are the same essentially I thought) this phone might not like them. Just a guess on my part which is likely wrong :)

EDIT:

Issue resolved. Mpga was the issue @ least for me. I downloaded the files to my pc from zedge.net instead of going through the phone browser then I just copied them over in mass storage mode. The new files were mp3 and worked just fine. Thanks for the assistance folks.

I have been having the same problem, but from ringtones from Phonezoo. Saved as mpga files. Phone would initially assign the ringtone, but then in about 10 minutes revert back to the default tone, and then not even give me the option of assigning them.

I'll try the whole .mp3 thing. Hope this works as well for me.

Good luck. It would not work for me while getting them online from Zedge (mpga) but once I actually downloaded the same files to the PC to transfer them over (they were mp3 that way) all went well. I am now set and happy. Looking forward to my sdcard too.

Yes, I got mine from Zedge as well. Downloaded them to the laptop and emailed them to myself. My laptops usb ports are all broken and it doesn't have bluetooth. I went to my email in the phone and saved the mp3 files to the ringtone folder.
