Root Risks in rooting phone?

I'm one of the unlucky users of a Gravity Smart. I want to root the phone to clear up the internal storage issues but am unsure. What risks do I face in doing this? Will I be out a phone if I screw it up? Can someone please let me know what are the worst possible scenarios?

Thanks,
Apisto-B

From what I see here, people seem to mess up is when they uninstall a vital app that screws with the internal functions. Just don't uninstall something if you aren't sure what it is. (Rooting enables the app Titanium Backup which enables you to uninstall anything.)
If I am wrong about any of this, I stand corrected.
