RKO Radio Studios...

5 American (1 sequel from RKO) + 2 Japanese, based on Kong?

@dontpanicbobby I could have ever figure you to be old enough to know anything about RKO radio studio unless you're into classic movies. Or you must been standing not too far behind me when God said let there be light when I flicked the switch :D

@KBU2 I'm not that old but I did see the original King Kong versus Godzilla in a movie theatre.

@tonymddn i can only think of 4 King Kongs produced in the US. King Kong, Son of Kong, King Kong (with Jeff Bridges) & King Kong (with Jack Black). Whats the 5th?

@mikedt Nobody uses color like they used to. If the studios want to be really drab they should just use more black and white film stock. Aside from that what didn't you like about the 2017 (Samuel L. Jackson) version?

Deleted. I was right first time ^ (I thought there was 6 for a moment)

I saw the 62 verion in the US in 63. I was 6.
Never heard of Greenman or King Kong Escapes. LA or New York only cinema release maybe?
I haven't seen it on TV either. Bet it wasn't that good... A lot, a whole lot of "Kaiju" stuff wasn't.
I liked the bright colors though. :)

Yes the Japanese posters are good.
" ...Escapes" was released in 68 with good and bad American dubbing, and good and bad reviews. Not really sure how that worked in Japan with American actors dubbed in to Japanese.

Seems a gentler story of Kong befriending a boy and doing good against contrived characters.Reissued for kids in 73 and again in 83. On DVD from 2005, and Blue Ray in 2014. Cheap on eBay here, and there is a double issue with the 62 film. must be available to stream somewhere.

I was 4 in 63.

Hmm:thinking:
I think i can remember seeing King Kong vs Mighty Joe Young In the early to mid 60's but I'm not sure if RKO Studio had any connections in broadcasting the production.
