i want to root my rogers captivate that currently has the official gingerbread update.
i was wondering if i can still root and if i can what is the easiest safest method, and a step by step tutorial. i like the one click root but i dont see if it works with 2.3, if there is no easy method how do i return to 2.1 or 2.2

There's instructions hanging around somewhere on the forums.
At the moment root is only achievable with a fugumod kernel swap.

Download the fugumod kernel and the stock 2.3.3 kernel from the next post. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to post links in my first post.

Open the latest version of Odin3, turn your phone off and put your phone into download mode by either holding the volume up and volume down buttons while plugging into the usb or holding volume down and power until the download mode screen shows up then plug it in.

If Odin3 detects it add the fugumod kernel to the PDA slot and click start.

When it's done, your phone will start to boot loop. Take the battery out to stop the boot loop and put it back into download mode.

Flash the stock 2.3.3 kernel using the same method as the fugumod kernel, let it boot, and check if superuser is installed.

You should be rooted
