right. But it isn't the business model IMHO. It is the freedom that google gives you that allows a manufacturer to make sneaky gotcha choices. But I say that's fine, well not fine but fine that some Chinese manf wants to play the usual extortion game. We simply need to know those details and then make our choice of hardware. I'd be the last to say that google needs to make rules or fine print that prevents stupid choices like this.
Now that I know about the hardware I will never buy an HTC phone again unless I know it is open for the open OS it is supposed to run. Between their closed hardware and Rogers unwilling to pay the price we are screwed if we want to play by their rules and hope for official upgrades. Meanwhile we can still play in that grey area of ROMs that do actually work. 1.6 for the time being is just fine but I'll not expect to be using HTC after my contract is up, and most likely not be on the same provider either.
