@enek: I am not a new subscriber either. i was going the hardware upgrade route also when I first called to order (when it was $149). I pointed out that I was a long-time loyal customer, and that it seemed wrong they would give a deal to new (unproven) customers, and not a loyal one. I also pointed out that Bell had the Palm Pre coming out soon, and sugested perhaps I might just wait out my contract and switch. I also said repeatedly that I was not happy with the price they wanted me to pay ($420) and eventually (after the woman checked with a supervisor) was told that I could have it for $200 if I signed up for a 36 month data plan ($30/mo) on top of my existing family plan.
I said Iwould have to think about it and call back. When I called back, I spoke with someone else who looked at the notes on my account and told me there would also be a $50 rebate coupon in the box. So that makes it the same $149 new user price.
When i called back for the extra $50 because of the price change, they didn't say anything about me being a new user. I just said "Hi, I just got the HTC Magic on a new 36 mo plan (techincally true since my contract was reset to the new 36 mo plan) and now you've dropped the price. i see people in the many forums saying they called and got the discount."
I was told No problem (on the second call).
NEway... proof that you can get it. Besides, you can tell them you will return the phone, and then buy it again for the lower price, as long as it's within the return policy period.
