Rogers Update is Here

I updated yesterday afternoon via SEUS and was very disappointed when I couldn't connect to the internet with 3G or Wifi, lost all my contacts, all my apps and nothing would sync....I was almost ready to throw it out the window, cursing myself for updating when I was perfectly happy with 1.6.
Anyway, I prevailed and put the thing to charge to a full charge and lo and behold...everything is working Grrreat!!!

I've got some work to do getting it back to how it looked before, but I'm enjoying my new look X10...and yes, it looks to be faster and more responsive. I can't comment on any of the other upgrades since I only really use my phone for making calls, texting and browsing. I'll be updating the wifes phone later on today...

Cheers,

FrankieGenius

You might consider rooting your phone and installing titanium backup. It will save all your apps and data for the next time you have to flash your phone. Glad you perservered :D

I've seen a "how to" on how to switch from Generic to Rogers Firmware.

Any reason to do this? My phone has no issues currently on generic.

didn't you read the instructions while updating on SEUS? it tells you to use the backup & restore app to back everything up to your SD card before updating, and actually makes you check a box agreeing that you realize it's going to format the phone before you can continue.

sucks your phone is reset but if you ignored the warnings, then it's not really sony's fault. i used the backup and restore and it put everything back.

oh, and 2.1 is 10x better than 1.6. way smoother, more responsive, and it actually feels like it's a current generation phone now. i was very close to selling mine for a samsung galaxy s if sony postponed the update any longer. now i'm glad i didn't :]

For us Rogers people, Acer JUST released 2.2 for the Liquid E....
Twitter

*sigh*
though i can't seem to find what additional benefits they are getting as a result of the upgrade.

other than Flash, not much else. I own both an X10a and Acer Liquid and I prefer the screen size on my X10. MediaScape is also a big + over the standard Anrdoid music app.

I just got my "you've used 80% of your bandwidth for October" text from Rogers mostly because of the update and reinstalling apps.... first time i've ever seen that. Time to use wifi for a few weeks :D

OMFG what's your data plan? :p
because once i'll recieve this message that will mean
upgrade your data plan bud
<---- runs on 6gb/month (most i've used is 1gb)

FWIW, I figured out why my phone won't update. It has a weird kit number that hasn't had the update released to yet. So I am left waiting again. Does anyone know if the kit numbers can be deciphered? Do the numbers actually mean anything?

rogers offer a flimsy 500mb data plan...sooo easy to max out...but so cheap if you do...last month i did 580mb on 500 and they charged me only 3$....but for 15 txt almost 20$...crazy rogers

the number only means the model and the color of the device...and on wich carrier it should be

Yeah, i have 500mb. Most i ever use is about 300. I'm in IT and have a computer on all day long so i dont 'need to browse that much...plus i have so much shut off to save battery that i don't normally use much data.

so when i want to use pc companion or sues ... what ones better to use? same thing?

also, to do that I hook up USB from phone to laptop. open phone files, then....?

I know I followed the instructions and when I tried to reinstall everything, nothing worked. That Backup & Restore app is a piece of shit, I don't trust it anymore.

Ya I have a 500mb plan as well. I have my personal and work email going to the phone and barely use wifi (unless installing a lot of apps) and my usage is under 200MB a month.

I got a Bold 9000 on a HW upgrade and sold it a day later for triple profit, but retained my "BB Data value Pack" which at the time offered: 500MB, 10,000 txt, 10,000 mms, and enhanced voicemail for like $30/mo.
Now that they make it all sepearate I don't care to change for a long time.
So I can live with the 500MBs

My voice plan is a customer retention plan.

my current plan is
200 minutes day / evening (from 6 pm to 7 am + week-ends: unlimited, wich also includes the # blocking option "wich mean i can manage who can call me and no :p )"25$", the iphone voicemail plan with 2500 txt "15$" and 6gb/month "30$" (got the "special" when i bought my iphone 3g "wich replaced my SE k790a" in 2008)
everything with taxes grinds up to approx 85$/month
--------------------------
but to answer the question yes it is OUT... i installed it last saturday at around 3 am
