Root [Rom][5-3-12]Broken Out Rom 2.0

Thanks for the great rom. Flashed my sister-in-law's phone and everything is running well, but it only rings once no matter what ring tone she chooses. I can't find anything under settings to change it... Any advice? Thanks again!

I've noticed this same issue. Desperate for a fix!

found an issue. the breakout rom does not disables verizons OTA updates. mine keeps trying to update every hour, and the install fails.

Is there a way to install the fastboot files so i can get the OTA and re-root and reinstall breajout roms?

OK... in case anyone else comes across this issue.... Seems how the stock rom links are down to that mediafire site, here is what i did...

IMPORTANT!!: Make sure you still have a stock verizon backup from the clockworkmod recovery menu.

Also make sure you have the root/unroot/broken out zip files on your SD card. THe root/unroot files are located here: http://androidforums.com/breakout-a...ntech-breakout-root-cwm-recovery-all-one.html

Recover original verizon ROM
1. Boot into the menu by restarting the phone and holding the search + power keys.
2. go to backup/restore and backupyour current setup (just in case)
3. wipe/factory reset the phone
4. recover origninal verizon rom backup
5. reboot and test to make sure it loads it ok back to the original crappy verizon bloatware.
6. get back into CWM menu and unroot the phone by installing the unroot file from the "install rom from sd card" option
7. reboot and use the RecoveryAIO.bat file and install original verizon fastboot.
8. reboot phone.

You're phone is now back to normal before you rooted it and installed the rom. You can now download verizons OTA update and it will complete

After your phone updates you can reroot, install CWM and then broken out rom with no issue.

I'm so glad i did not delete that backup of my original rom

Does anyone else have trouble getting the phone UNROOTED? I've installed the stockrom and run the unroot zip file, but superuser is still installed. I installed the stock recovery and tried to install the latest software update and get the droid triangled !. Update has failed. I've tried running the unroot zip multiple times with no luck.

I unrooted two Breakouts tonight without a problem. After installing BreakoutUnRoot.zip, Superuser is still installed, but Root Checker shows that the phone is no longer rooted.

How exactly are you flashing BreakoutUnRoot.zip?

I followed your steps successfully (thanks). However, after performing the latest OTA update and reinstalling BrokenOut 2.0, I checked the software update status, and it's once again trying to apply the OTA update! The problem is that the version number gets overwritten by the BrokenOut ROM, so Verizon's OTA update system thinks I need to once again take the update.

Seems like we need a new version of BrokenOut which is based on this latest OTA update.

I got it sorted out... I was installing the stockrom then the unroot zip file. I should have run the unroot zip file then install the stockrom. No superuser app when done in the correct order. I installed the OTA update and although it said it failed to update, the phone status and version shows that it did update??? I installed the broken out 2.0 ROM and I've found that the data connection seems to drop out randomly. I previously used the broken out ROM 1.2 without any problems (for about 3-4 months). The 2.0 ROM appears to have a few stability issues, where as the 1.2 ROM was very stable for me anyway.

I would also recommend trying to get yourself back to stop, according to the directions posted a little further up the page, and then staying there until the dev has updated the Broken out Rom, well if he has any plans to. We haven't heard from MtMichaelson in a while on this thread, but the last OTA update from Verizon was a modem update. Generally ROMs should be modem agnostic, however it seems that this ROM is not. I was running version 1.2 on my girlfriend's breakout for quite some time, and it has been crazy unstable since the latest OTA update. Apparently the 2.0 users are having problems as well. MtMichaelson, any chance on a version 2.1 update to fix the issues that came up from the last Verizon OTA? Also as many others have said, I think disabling OTA updates is a must before I'd recommend installing this ROM again.

So, is this rom all good, or are the issues too much to deal with? I think I'm going to take the leap and use it.

My phone started randomly rebooting after reinstalling Broken Out 2.0 after applying the latest OTA update. This might just be me though, since I only wiped cache/Dalvik/reset once. The ROM was quite nice. I really wish we could get an updated version of the ROM based on the latest OTA.

So I take it that means to wait and hope he updates it?

if you havent updated your phone yet it runs fine. i never updated my phone and been running the breakout 2.0 rom for a bit now. as long as i dont try to look for updates i dont get prompted to update. it runs great on my phone. used root explorer to get rid of a few apps i didnt want i copied over the native pantech task manager made holo launcher and holo locker the only launcher and lockscreen and with the ics themed status bar i have a phone that looks like a stock ics phone. havent had a problem with it at all. backup ur original rom and try it. you can always flash back to the stock rom if you dont like it. as long as you have a backup.

Can we edit the build prop to "trick" the ota update? My sister in law is getting constant update reminders and waking up to her phone in the update triangle droid screen?

Is there any way after I install this that I can get all of my files and stuff onto it from my default rom? Like all the apps, settings, home screen layout, call log, texts, etc?

Wonderful rom though. :)

I'm done with the Broken Out 2.0, too many issues and very unstable ROM. I've gone back to the Broken Out 1.2, no known issues and extremely stable, though not as much ROM and RAM freed up. Would really like to see another try at 2.0 but with issues resolved and stable. Broken Out 1.2 working very well with the latest OTA update installed.

thanks to MTM and anyone who has or is working on this device for us. i have a Q? though. can i flash 1.2 on top of the stock breakout pre rom? thanks

For those who forgot to backup the stock ROM: here is a nandroid backup of a completely stock, completely bloated, and completely updated, Pantech stock ROM.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/30427367/Stock ROM.zip

Remember, it's a nandroid backup, so you have to unpack the zip and then stick the contents into the "/clockworkmod/backup" directory on your SD card.

No guarantees that this will work, but it's worth a try!

EDIT: It will work, but you have to change the name to a timestamp format or else it will fail the md5 check.

Hi,
I have successfully rooted my phone and installed this Rom some time ago. I was trying to get rid of the OTA notices and upgrade to 2.0. I'd actually be happy if I could just restore my phone to it's unrooted state. Here's what I did:
1. Made a complete backup of my current ROM.
2. Installed the Stock Rom provided in the post above.

Now my phone says a SIM card is not installed. However, I receive calls and texts, but I can't make either.

The phone is no longer rooted. SuperOneClick (which I used before) no longer works.

When I try to reboot into recovery, I just get the exclamation triangle & android guy.

Any ideas on what I can do to get my phone working again?
Jack
