All credit goes to SDX I'm simply reposting this here since it worked so well for me. Visit the original thread here for updates and to thank the developers [ROM] Basic DL05 Beta 6 ROM (2.1 --> 2.2 Made Easier) (Upd: 03/20 2:15AM EDT)

BASIC DL05 ROM - BETA 6

Thanks to Mrwrx for all his work porting the original Kernel for 2.2, and thanks to Joeseph Mother for his modifications to the kernel included in this ROM.

For anyone that is new to updating their phone, AGAT and I wanted to give you an easier way to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2. This is mean't for people going from 2.1 to 2.2, anyone already on 2.2 shouldn't need this, but it can be used, just be aware that it will still replace your kernel and OS and wipe data.

This can be applied no matter what version of Android you are running, and regardless of what Kernel you are using, in as few steps as possible. This will install both the Kernel and the Android OS.

If you would like to read the full post for the regular Beta 6, click here.

If you're installing this ROM, please follow the instructions below, not in the above link.

Change log for Beta 6 can be found in the link above.

This ROM Includes DL05 Beta 6 and Joeseph Mother's "SDX_DL05_Kernel," which is based off his CrUDkernel, which is based off his CrapKernel, which in turn is based off Mrwrx's original kernel.

Currently this kernel is identical to CrUDkernel, but I may modify it in the future if I find reason to. Currently, it is perfect as far as I'm concerned, so it's unmodified.

The only notable difference between this ROM and the standard Beta 6 Update ZIP I posted in the other thread is the ability to flash in less steps and easily over 2.1 and the included kernel.

Because many users have chosen to run their phones with the soft button LEDs Off (Menu, Back, Home Buttons on Screen) to conserve battery, two versions of the ROM are available. One has these LEDs turned off, one has them turned on. You can choose which to download.

WARNING: Following the steps below will upgrade your Android version to 2.2.1. This will clear EVERYTHING off your phone that you have not backed up or saved on your SDCard. Your Contacts will be fine as long as you've kept them synced to your Gmail account.

Please Keep this in mind before continuing. If you want to backup your data, boot into Recovery, hit Backup, and choose to do a Full Backup of SYSTEM and DATA. If you want to backup your SMS (Text) Messages, you can try using "SMS Backup" or "SMS Backup & Restore" from Market.

PREREQUSITES: You will need a custom recovery installed on your phone. If you do not have this, see the bottom of this post, there will be a section devoted to installing the custom recovery. It will be highlighted in GREEN.

Instructions for Installing this ROM:

MD5's can be found for the files can be found immediately following instructions if you want them.

  1. Download the ROM zip. Choose either NO LED or LED ON (NO LED is recommended, as it saves battery. See BLUE text above.)
  2. Place the file you have downloaded onto your SDCard, in /sdx/zip.
  3. Boot into Recovery by Turning the phone off, then pressing and holding the Green Phone button, the Red End Call button, and the Volume Down button on the left side of the phone all at once. Keep them held down until the phone turns on.
  4. A screen will come up with a bunch of options. Choose "Apply zip from SD Card." You can scroll up and down with the big black button under the Menu button at the bottom of the phone by sliding your finger up or down on the button. Choose the option by pressing down on the button until it clicks.
  5. Choose the ZIP File you just put on your SDCard from the list and press down on the black button again to choose.
  6. At the bottom of the screen, it will ask you to press the HOME button to confirm. Press the Home button.
  7. The above step will take a while. When it is complete, it will tell you it has been successful. Reboot the phone.

Once rebooted, your phone should be running Android 2.2.1. Please be aware that the first boot will take A WHILE. Perhaps a few minutes. This is normal. If your screen stays black for several minutes, or it starts vibrating oddly, and rebooting, something has gone wrong. A black screen for ~15-20 seconds on first boot is normal.

Performance Recommendations:

  1. Disable "Audible Selection." This is the click sound it makes when taping on things. Menu -> Settings -> Sound -> Uncheck "Audible Selection."
  2. Turn off "Window Animations." Seems to Speed things up greatly for me. Menu -> Settings -> Display -> Animation -> "No Animations."
  3. Use LauncherPro as your default Launcher. It seems to run a lot smoother, faster, etc.

Installing Custom Recovery (SDX Recovery 3.1.1):

Follow these instructions IF you do not currently have a custom recovery on your phone, which is required to install the above ROM.

If you already have the Sprint Updater Installed (NOT THE LITE VERSION) you can skip to step 3.

  1. Download the Sprint Updater, which can be found here. It will allow you to flash the custom recovery. It is ~101MB.
  2. Download the Custom Recovery TAR file (SDX Recovery 3.1.1), which can be found here.
  3. Once the downloads are finished, Install the Sprint Updater (SprintUpdater-CL14.exe) If you already have it installed, you can skip this, but if you have another version, it may not work. If it doesn't, remove it and install this.
  4. Reboot after installing the Sprint Updater when it asks.
  5. After the computer reboots, Copy the SDX-Recovery-311.tar to "C:\Program Files\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade_lite\Models\Binary\" if you are using a 32-bit Windows, or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade_lite\Models\Binary\" if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows. Make sure you delete ANY other file in this folder. You should ONLY have the Recovery Tar.
  6. Open the SWUpdater. Follow the instructions on screen. If it doesn't detect your phone (Error installing driver) download and install the correct drivers and try again. Drivers can be found here: 32-Bit || 64-Bit (Yes, these are the correct Drivers)
  7. When it finishes, your phone should reboot. It should show a new SDX Boot logo when the phone first turns on. If you see this, it has installed successfully. You can reboot and enter Recovery, and follow the ROM installation instructions above.

Awesome I just wanted to report back since have been using this DL05 Beta 6 for about a week now and it has been rock solid. I flashed stock DJ07 then installed this on top just to make sure the install was clean. There are a lot of little things about 2.2 that are so much better than 2.1. Email, clock, and calendar are all greatly improved, web browsing is faster, no issues with market, more available apps, and battery life is also better.

Also I was on a plane this weekend and on landing powered on my phone at the same time as the girl next to me powered on a new looking iphone and the startup time was the same. Kudos to the devs at sdx

There is actually a newer ROM out based on the transform made from the same guys that worked on the OP's rom.

Froyo EB28 v1.1 for Samsung Moment

I had issues flashing that one, planning to try again soon though

anyone in socal that would just like to do this for me lol im scared im gonna eff up my phone.

Probably not unless you want to pay, yes there is a chance you could brick your phone but its pretty small. If you follow the directions you should be alright.

lol never hurts to ask right.

guess what i dont understand is where to find this /sdx/zip i looked through my phone but its not there. i work on cars so excuse my dumbness. i do know my way around a computer but for some reason i am having trouble with this.

i was able to download the sdx recovery file and place it in the directory like stated above but thats where i stopped.

i stopped at 5th step of the second section so i am assuming that all i need to do is flash the new sdx recovery to my phone and once that is done then i can try and flash the rom.

do i need to flash anything else or is it just the rom and the recovery?

shacal13 you will get a lot more answers on sdx forum, this one is nearly dead. Did you get it loaded in recovery? I flashed recovery months ago so I cant remember for sure but as long as your are running DJ07 and have recovery you can flash this rom.

I'm looking at eb28 next since its uspposed to but this one is still rock solid.
