Development on this ROM has ceased due to a lack of interest, and to take priority in further aiding in the development of StormDroid and OverStocked.

If you're anything like me, you've upgraded your phone, and now you're sitting here with this seemingly useless Ally.
You want to use it as a PMP (Personal Media Player) but can't find a ROM made just for that.

Well, look no further.

Coming soon, a Gretel Based PMP ROM for Ally.

Stay tuned for more info on what has been removed and added, as well as videos and/or screenshots.
 
So wait, your going to take gnm, s gretel/ debloat it of all phone software/ repair the wifi/ rebuild the settings so its normalish and make it into a protable media rom for retired allies?
When yah fix the wifi, let me know...
 
Interestingly enough, in a couple of months, this is exactly what I will be looking for. I'm still using the phone for now, but I want to turn it in to a pmp when I'm done with it... in fact, I was searching for android based pmp's just the other day. I'm looking forward to this.

Maybe I just don't understand something, but why can't you use the phone with one of the current ROMs as a PMP?

Just cause the phone gets deactivated when you get a new phone doesn't mean it no longer works. I've been using my retired Ally for music, movies, Golf GPS, walking\hiking\riding GPS, games, etc. with the Punisher, Frunisher, Velocity 1.1 and 1.2 ROMs with no problems. I just put the phone in airplane mode (actually don't have to do this), turn on the wifi (because it already works) and get things from the market over my wifi connection. Plus if my Incredible ever breaks, I can easily re-activate my Ally and use it as a phone if need be because it still has all of the 'phone' software on it. There would be no need to flash a different ROM just to get the phone functionality back.

Simple for the purpose of debloating even more useless shit, honestly.
PMP = more things can be deleted = more space.
So essentially it's just optimized for PMP.

And yes, everyone knows you can already use a deactivated phone for this purpose. In fact, that's how I've been helping with the development of StormDroid already.
 
Here's a question for you guys...
Would you like to see a version with the Wifi still broken, until I (or someone) can get it figured out? Or would you rather just wait for a full Wifi-working version?
 
I personally don't care. I'd say release it openly noting that the WiFi isn't working, but that a fix is on the way. I don't know about everyone else, but I can do just fine with my 3G.

The point of this rom is that it won't be a phone rom, but a media player rom. Given what's been said about it, I'm not sure it'll actually have support for the 3G at all. This is mostly for people who already upgraded, but refuse to add their Ally to the trash pile.

That said, without wifi, you'll be able to put apps on your phone via the sd card, but without wifi, you'll be slower on updates and such. I say wait for wifi so that it can be a more useful rom.
