Root ROM: Fission

What is the best way to delete a theme or add-on from the fission rom manager, or rom manager (general) for that matter?

What exactly are you trying to do? You should've made a backup I'm not to sure how to remove a theme.

Well say that I want to switch from fission. Is it best to flash back to my stock rooted backup and then install whichever new rom?

And for example, if I dl a new keyboard addon (black swype in this case) how may I remove that?

I would install whatever swype you want over it or back up before you install upgrades so you can go back before you had it

Yea that is what I do.

I install Fission and back it up and then when I put themes on I back them up and then if I want to put a new theme on I restore back to stock Fission and put the new theme on and then back it up.

Is it good to delete old backups that you are sure you no longer need? After time, will these take up large amounts of space?

i will generally clear out my backups every few weeks. As i flash alot they stack up quickly.

If i make a change, ill make a backup but after a few days if i like it i'll gnerally speaking wipe that backup. I make sure I keep a stock backup with root only and a clean rom backup immediately after i flash. The rest are kinda disposable.

I keep my stock rooted then make a few backups here and there and delete them when I know I will never use them again

I am trying to help my brother with his D2. We rooted it and put on squidly's newest rom. If I switch him over to Fission, what steps in recovery should I do to flash this. Also when restoring a backup, do you wipe cache, dalvik cache and do a factory data reset like I do on the Ally? Thanks for any help.

I always wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset when loading new ROMs. Its a new ROM so its best to start fresh because flashing over can cause problems. You mount system and as I recommended wiping both then install from SD card.

Is it necessary/good idea to wipe data and cache when applying a theme?

Alright, I know I'm being a bit overly cautious, but if I want to flash back to a backup of the older "untouched" version of the rom, do i need to wipe data and cache?

Technically it's never necessary to wipe data and cache unless installing a new ROM. I never wipe when installing themes or when restoring a backup.

Well I'm trying to flash a non-themed backup of fission 2.4.2 through Rom manager. Clockwork said that the install was aborted so I was wondering if wiping had anything to do with this.

So any help getting back to this 2.4.2?

just a quick question. I have my phone rooted, ave the bootstrap recovery 2, titanium bkp which I have run and backed up everything, etc etc. getting ready to flash to the fission rom using the fission rom manager. question is, after I do so, if I dont like it or for whatever reason want to go back to stock, I can just do a full restore from my titanium backup? easy peasy?

thanks

DON'T DO IT YET!! , haha

T. BU is for APPS only (and data)

ROM Manager/recovery console (reboot into "recovery") is the way to back up an IMAGE - aka, your system as it was.

Cruise some of the threads and stickies on backup. Just make sure to backup the image, and restore as a test before you wipe and load another ROM.
Just my .02

HA, very cool, thanks for the reply. I did just that, backed my current ROM with Rom manager, and restored, no issues.

so if/when I flash a new, custom rom, I will lose all my apps/data? then just log into my account and let the apps restore as normal? Or I can use titanium backup to back up just the apps I want, then flash the custom rom, then titanium bkp restore of those apps? yes? Thanks again

I've read Titanium doesn't work well with some ROMs so I don't use it anymore. When you sync your market with your gmail account again, your apps should restore but your data won't.

You mean data from the titanium backup? Or any backup really?

Howdy y'all.
I feel like a noob.
Well.. I am a noob. Just got my first Android phone, a Droid 2, a couple of weeks ago.
I rooted it the day after I got it (I don't like being told I can't do something; tethering for example ;) )

Now I want to play with ROMs and customizing etc.
I have ROM manager and the Fission ROM Manager apps.
I tried to create a backup in ROM Manager but it just restarted my phone.
I have tried several times even after re-rooting my phone.
I tried booting into Recovery but the phone just restarts.
I tried to install the Fission ROM anyway, but the phone just restarts.

Am I doing something wrong? I should be able to at least get a successful backup, right?

Nevermind. I didn't have Bootstrapper installed.
I got it to flash.

However now I have no data. Internet does not load.

*EDIT* Data works now. Not sure why. It started working when I was done syncing apps and turned off wifi.
