Root [Rom] Newts OnE XxX beta (Sense 4 ICS 4.0.3) 4/2/2012

Wow! Looks like he's off to a great start. I depend on my phone too much to try it until it's got a few more bugs worked out, but groovy!

Ok, so I tried giving this a shot and surprise, surprise bootloop.
I followed the instructions here on XDA: [Rom] Newts OnE XxX RC 2.1 *LIVE!!!* (Sense 4 ICS 4.0.3) 4/17/2012 - xda-developers

**Installation instructions for rom**
-download rom
-copy to sd
-reboot to recovery
-wipe data, system, and dalvik
-Flash rom

**Installation of boot.img**
-download boot.img
-copy to pc to your fastboot directory
-cd to the directory
-type these commands
-"fastboot flash boot boot.img"

However, I found a flashable boot.img that I flashed through recovery (I hate having to use my laptop to flash everything so I try to stay as Windows-free as possible).
Flashable boot zip: Flashable Boot Image for One XXX

So this is what I did EXACTLY:
1. loaded three files to my sd card2. loaded the flashable boot zip to my sd card
Sense_4_Flashable_Boot.zip
3. deleted Sense4_boot.img
4. rebooted to hboot, launched Amon Ra.
5. wiped data
6. wiped system
7. wiped dalvik cache
8. loaded zip from sd card: NeWts-OnE-XxX-RC2-Signed.zip
9. flashed Sense4_boot.img
10. phone booted to hboot, hit power button, asked if I wanted to update, hit yes.
11. rebooted phone. Fired up but reboots.
12. pulled battery and sd card, deleted PH98IMG.zip
13. posted here, looking for input. What am I not getting? I posted on the Mikmik asking why there are three downloads, i.e. what is the patch for but have heard nothing back yet.

And now my nandroid backup won't even load, my phone is dead in the water. It sits at the boot screen for a LONG time.

did you flash the old firmware patch? it doesnt specify, but i believe newts rom requires new firmware,or the old firmware patch if youre still on GB firmware.

you needed a step "8.5" to flash old firmware patch. after flashing rom, prolly before flashing main version low.

last and not least, make sure you follow this install note:
when you get booted you need to go into settings and turn off animations or it will freeze up

if you haent done that,it may be causing you issue as well.

what troubles are you having with your backup? are you trying to restore from a permanent recovery again?

if youre getting errors, make sure your battery is charged. a low battery will casue prollems making and restoring backups. it will charge in a permanently installed amon,so you can put it in recovery and plug it in for awhile if you need to.

once the phone is charges, launch amon from fastboot again, and do full wipe:
-data/factory reste
-cache
-dalvik cache
-system
-boot

if you do not get any errors, then restore your backup. unless it has somehow become corrupt,it should restore and boot fine.

remember,a permanent amon is unable to install kernels. this applies to flashing new roms, and restoring backups.

No, it doesn't specify...I have to remember this too when attempting to flash an ICS Rom

The new version of this rom (RLS1) is just amazing. I feel like this needs to be repeated throughout all android forums. :) Between this and the amazing Ineffabilis Deus, I am seriously loving my Rezound.

Agreed - other than some minor irritations it's running flawlessly. I have tried all the Sense 4 ROM's and nothing compares to this.

I wish the nonsense between the Devs would stop so they could concentrate on developing rather than pecking away at each other. The whole thing just seems silly to me! Give credit where credit is due. If the ROM is good, people will download it, use it and donate!

Yeah, I agree the bickering is really sad to see. That's why when I'm on an HTC device I tend to mainly stick with themikmik -- the best devs are on that site, and it's a much better atmosphere.

Now once we get our official ICS update and source is released, I will have to spend more time peaking back at xda, since I do like messing with aosp and MIUI... ;)

Mik and Newt are the true devs, I am not trying to start a flame war but it is the truth. Basically if you download someone elses roms you are just downloading a themed version of newts rom.

I stick to themikmik.com much nicer environment than xda, plus you get the true blue roms.

I successfully flashed this rom. I love it too, but noticed that I am unable to change the ringtone. Is this a known issue or is it just me?

well,i dont know that thats a completely accurate statement. chingy does seem to have a good source for leaks for htc devices, but seems to me the first to provide a rooted, deodex 100% stock rom from an RUU is scrossler. most devs are using this as a base for vigor build/sense 3.6 roms.

while i am thuroughly enjoying newts inc 4g port and will readily admit he obviously has dev talent, there are some reasons i personally dont put him and/or chingy up on a pedestal.

al23,i dotn have any issues changing ringtones either. maybe redownload, check md5,and full wipe and reflash.

sense 4 is neat, but im still longing for some good ol' AOSP :D

I will redownload. last time I did not check md5. I will later tonight before flashing.

I do: factory reset, cache, dalvik and format. Anything else?

Which version are you guys using? I tried version 3 yesterday (rc 3). This was the download where i was unable to change ringtones.

That's an older version, latest is rls1.

Also, newt just posted that he's close to releasing a new version with the help of mik and with tweaks built by tommytomatoe (anyone here from the EVO will know why I'm so excited about that collaboration).

Ah, looking again, I see my mistake. Thanks.

well, I wasn't really talking about any of the devs from themikmik...more talking about certain ones on xda who update "their roms" a day after newt updates his.

you can wipe /system(tho most roms have a script that does this)

and if you are planning to re-flash your kernel, then you can also wipe /boot

Thanks. I flashed it successfully (I am loving flashing the kernel via PC. It avoids so many issues). As for the ROM: hate it. Hate the....:D Just kidding. This ROM is truly a thing of beauty. There are one or two very minor things I see, but I am running ICS with sense 4. I can do everything I need to and want to do on the phone. I have nothing to complain about.

Im also having some troubles installing this one, im stuck at the mikroms screen with all the dirt or whatever. i wiped everything, flashed the rls3 flashed gb patch flashed rls3.1.2
i tried to use adb to flash the boot img, then i tried the flashable boot img and am just stuck at that one screen.... last time i tried this i got all the way to the home screen and was able to turn off animations, but it was still rebooting, right now i cant even get that far.... i have let it sit at that screen for upwards of 15 minutes.... they said it could take a while...

your prollem is flashing the GB patch before you flashed rls 3.1.2

you do not need to flash rls3. just 3.1.2,then the GB patch, then the kernel.

if you have successfully flashed the boot image, then you might get away with just flashing the rom and patch. if not, youll need to flash the boot image again.

i strongly recomend fastboot booting your recovery. that way the seperate kernel flash is not needed.

-fastboot boot amon
-full wipe,flash rls 3.1.2
-flash GB patch
-reboot

the rebooting is a classic sign of mismatched firmware,i.e, not flashing the old firmware patch.

So I'm thinking about flashing this Rom. I'm still S-ON and thought I was going to take the jump to S-Off, but I can't quite decide if I want to yet.

I am still on the GB firmware. I just want to make sure I've got everything straight on the install process if I'm still S-ON.

1. fastboot boot Amon Ra
2. Wipe Cache/Dalvik/Factory reset/boot
3. Flash the ROM.

4. Here is where I'm lost. I know I need to flash the old firmware patch, and I need to flash the ROM's kernel. Is that the boot image part? Which order, old firmware patch and THEN kernel, or Kernel (bootimage?) and THEN old firmware?

Thanks!
