Root [ROM RELEASE] Velocity V0.4

Amazing work, as always what's expected from Trident. The only recommendation I have is that the system sounds and boot animation are from a Droid. Maybe this is part of Trident's process, but I would prefer to see custom ally sounds and boot screens in the next release of a rom. I don't wish my phone was a droid and dislike anything on it from a droid very much. But other than that amazing rom. I noticed when the initial setup comes up it speed right through it without any delay or lag. Always ran very slowly before now.
 
This is a very good ROM! By far the best one I've put on my phone. It is very fast and responsive even without overclocking. I haven't found one bug so far in it. Awesome job Trident!!!
 
Everything is still workin good for me but I notice videos in the youtube player are black and white. I tried a few just to be sure. Would this be related to the rom or should I just uninstall it and try getting it from the market again?

As far as I know there is no youtube app available on the market, no official one anyway. I haven't gotten a black and white video but I can't login to my youtube account, it drops my network within the app, but I don't think thats a problem with the rom.
 
Trident is the most awesome dev I could see, this rom is amazing, great work, expect a donation in the next couple of weeks when my holiday check comes in, just what I wanted for christmas:)

Thank you trident. The only problem i am having is that all videos are in black and white and calender seems to be force closing constantly. Any suggestions?

EDIT:
Nevermind. I booted into recovery and wiped cache and delvik and all videos are fine now.
And calendar and clock have stopped force closing since I did a wipe
 
I was on you tube with it last night and all the videos work just fine. There must be a different issue. I can log onto my account and I was quite impressed at how fast the videos were loading compared to before this rom.
 
Love the rom. It's fast and stable. I only have one thing not working...NFL Mobile. I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice and rebooted after each reinstall. I checked youtube to make sure videos work and they do.

Any ideas?
 
I think I'm going to have to take the entire thing back to formula. I am a Premium Clockwork Mod donater, and the Rom Manager app hasn't worked for me in over 4 months. It's seen a slew of updates from the Market, but none of them have worked. Anyway, I flashed the clockwork recovery (been stuck with 2.5.0.5 forever) back in July, and have used Velocity 0.1 and Velocity 0.2 as well as a speed optimized kernel... but due to the troubles I have had with the Clockwork Recovery I decided to stop hacking.

I figured I'd get around to removing the clockwork recovery at some point, and use a different one. I'm Linux only at my house, and all my searches for Clockwork removal have been guides for Windows. I'm sure I could tweak the information, but I was feeling lazy and the phone has been working so I just kept it.

Then when I saw Velocity 0.4 had been released, I decided to give myself a tech Christmas gift. *winces* Hindsight tells me I should have ripped Clockwork off beforehand.

I used Rom Manager to install 0.4 after downloading the zip file. I noticed it said wiping wasn't necessary (although, that probably meant from Velocity 0.3... *shrugs* Oops!) so I told Rom Manager just to reboot and install the thing.

After we got back to Android, I noticed my wall-paper was the same, but 9 out of every 10 apps I had installed were missing. Along with them, some pretty important applications like the Phone Dialer were also MIA. Rom Manager is missing, so I can't try to flash again and wipe caches and data this time. Attempting to install any apps from the Market result in them downloading successfully, but informing me that the "package file is invalid" during installation.

And then lastly, I wanted to unsync and then resync my Google account (it has helped me with issues in the past), but a visit to Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync results in the Ally rebooting.

The Rom looks like it will be nice. I just have some stability issues on my end I need to work out... and they're probably related more to what else is (Clockwork Recovery) and was on here than they are due to Velocity. Either way, I guess I'd better get to work on it pronto. A phone with no dialer isn't going to get me very far.

--- EDIT: booted back into Clockwork Recovery the manual way and flashed the radio image. I didn't expect this to have any impact at all. It did, and certainly not what I would have expected. When I got back in... now some of my missing apps were "found." They weren't all present... for example, default apps like the dialer were still MIA... and some market apps like Rom Manager were still gone. But oddly, apps that I didn't install from the market... APK's I downloaded and installed without the market were now back.

I think I'll manually return to to Clockwork one more time. Wipe data and caches and if, and when, that fails, I'll see about pulling clockwork.

-- 2nd Edit: -- Addendum... ok, it seems I have recovered everything. All I have to do now is reinstall Maps, find the 8 gig class 6 card I have. Been using a 4 gig class 4... put the other card away for "safe keeping." Now I can't find it. Sounds about right.

Anyway... since this Velocity rom has the "Wireless Tether" app, not much need in me keeping Barnacle around. Is there?
 
Only problem that I've had with it was after a day of using it, my lock button stopped working. Not sure what happened with that, or if it's because of an app. But I decided to retry it, and I'll update to let you know what happens.
 
Everytime i try to run a browser search it force closes. As soon as i start typing. This is very bothersome. It just started to happen this morning. I have booted into recovery and did a wipe of both caches and no luck. PLEASE HELP
 
I like it a lot! Doesn't even need to be oc'd.

It would be nice if there was on board assistance for scripts, though.
 
So if i go into the scripts and enable OTA updates, will I be able to get the 2.2 update when it is released?
 
Is rhett any fix for the the youtube issue? I was able to use it over right after install. Now it fc's at boot.
 
I just flashed Velocity 0.4. after using GParted to wipe the SD/EXT partition, and then ClockworkMod Recovery to install Velocity. So far it seems to be working OK, but I have noticed the following issues:

Lookout Mobile Security keeps FCing - uninstalled. I had minor issues with this ever since rooting anyway.

Angry Birds didn't run until I rebooted and reinstalled it.
Opera Mini browser wouldn't run until re-installed.
You Tube videos which should be in color are in B&W.

I may be able to shed some light on the B&W YouTube issue. I just tested the camera, and it, too, displays only B&W images on the viewer, but it does take color photos when it is doing that. So I think there must be an issue with the video driver in this build not displaying color video for some reason when using the camera or watching YouTube. I shot some video with the camera and it, too plays back in B&W. So apparently only motion video or "live video" is in B&W. I can view color still shots in color.

I had used the BackupTool before I flashed the ROM, and although it seems to have put my apps back, it did NOT restore "all my settings automatically". I had to reset all the things like volume controls, which ringtones to use for what (many new ones are offered, but for now I am still using what I had been using in stock VZC, so they are still there and could be restored if the program wanted to do it). If I am wrong in assuming this backup gets automatically applied, someone let me know. I thought it did.

I lost my Launcher Pro screen setup. I 'thought' I had made a backup of the 5 screens and settings I was using before, but I can't find it on the SD card so I guess I had forgotten to do it. Would be nice if those would get restored too.

Are there any known apps which simply will not run from the Velocity ROM?
