Root [ROM]Simon's Sense 3.5 MARVELC VIRGIN MOBILE USA

Here is a Sense 3.5 ROM, made by simonsimons34--as he is known on the xda board, pretty sure it's something similar here.

THIS IS A MARVELC VIRGIN MOBILE USA ROM

I'm just going to link directly to his post on xda:

[ROM]Simon's Sense 3.5 (4-29-12) - xda-developers

I take no credit for this whatsoever...I just didn't see any thread on this forum for it.

I just flashed it, and I don't have the 'connected' problem that he details in the post as of yet.

The only thing I have determined as of yet that isn't working for me personally is video playback.

I tried this ROM some time back and didn't like it, I forgot why :) Maybe bcs the FB issue

I have been alternating between BlueRidge Sense 2.1 and Cyanogenmod 7 Beta, both by Simonsimons34

I like the CM7Beta, but Camera, camcorder, videos and GPS don't work, so when I need those I flash to Sense 2.1

I went ahead and flashed the SS 3.5 and I am gonna play around with it

edit: took a quick look

video playback works. And so does camera and camcorder
gps works.
fm radio doesn't work (it actually works on Blueridge sense 2.1!).
The built-in Facebook 2 works, but comes with ads.
Facebook from Google Play (market) doesn't work

I think I'm going to try out the CM7 beta, however the camera functionality really, really bugs me. I don't believe I've tried Blue Ridge either, thanks for the tips.

Here's what's happened since last night:

The 'Connected' apn bug popped after waking up this morning...seems to come and go, I suppose. There is a mod made specifically to make it transparent here but I haven't tried it yet.

Since you mentioned video, I did some testing and long story short it is buggy on my device, to say the least. It plays them when it wants to and there was even a deletion of a test video...no bueno.

I really don't like some things about Sense 3.5 but I'm just starved for something 'different' on my device...there really isn't a whole lot out there for the CDMA version of this phone, which is strange because I used to have MetroPCS and a shitty Huawei Ascend, and even they had ports of CM7 not too long after it's release. It may have been easier to develop for (?) or more popular and therefore more 'hivemind' to stretch it's limitations...

Anyway, looking fwd to the One V this summer (hopefully). At around two hundred I'll probably snatch it up.

EDIT: WOW. Cyanogen Mod is so much better on this phone than my old Huawei, enough to perhaps make it my daily driver and switch to another ROM if I'm going to be in a 'camera' situation.

I'm using this rom right now. I stripped every bit of social media crap out of it, so I really don't care about the FaceBook issues. It also comes with Adobe Flash, YouTube, WiFi Hotspot and a bunch of other junk I certainly don't want or need. It's got a ton of ringtons and other stuff too, I'm still trying to strip it all out.

I'm on MetroPCS and everything else seems to work perfectly despite the ROM coming from a VM user (it's setup to be vendor neutral, but that's not always how it works).

My only complaints:

  • having to strip the social/bloat crap

  • takes a solid 10 minutes to boot. The first boot took 20-25 minutes. You'll get your home screen after a few minutes, but the phone will be unresponsive and slow until it's "done" (around the 10 minute mark). Since I don't ever turn my phone off this isn't really an issue, but something to be aware of. This is the reason HTC said Sense 3.5 wouldn't work on the Marvel/c.
  • Swype doesn't work. I'm working on this one, but haven't figured it out yet.
  • No Deep Idle - Really need to look into this one as a typical day's use will drain the phone. This isn't a problem unless you talk a lot on the phone. But you'll have to charge it every night or else. Also something I'm working on.

The rom is sexy looking though, especially compared to the stock Sense 2.1 interface. I'll not be going back and if I can fix Swype and Deep-Idle it'll be perfect (the wife is waiting on these before she switches).

FM Radio works perfectly for me. Haven't heard any complains about that on XDA either. No "Connected" bug either, but I think that's a MetroPCS thing.

anyone experiencing sms problems with this rom?

I had MMS issues, and that's the reason I stopped using it.

I've honestly kind of given up hope for a stable (I.E. absolutely everything working) ROM for the Wildfire S CDMA. There just isn't a plethora of dev's working on this variant.

I never experienced the boot times previous poster mentioned.

I'm looking forward to the Evo V. Screw this phone.

It's true, there isn't many devs working on marvelc. Team Blueridge is one small team of devs dedicated to the marvelc. I am guessing (just guessing!) there will be some good releases in a month or two, especially cyanogenmod 7.

I have been cycling through the ROM's. I really liked the CM7 beta. I can do without camera and video but I need the GPS, so can't stick with the beta.

Currently I am using the rooted stock from Team Blueridge. Has tons of free internal memory, and seems to be solid so far. So I really don't see anything bad with this rom, but I love the free space!

Hey folks, please support the few who are actually working on this phone
here is their web site

and their blog site

and their current roms are in the goo link

I am not part of Team Blueridge, and I am not a dev, but I am an end-user, anxious to get the CM7 (and eventually CM9?) on my phone :)

on edit: here is a fresh update on their development, I found on their forum:

The first boot was roughly 15-20 minutes, but it boots now in about a minute (maybe less). Might have been other issues, not entirely sure.

I've got issues with Text/MMS either taking minutes to come up or failing. I'm trying to find a fix, but nothing so far. Also the newer on-screen keyboard is pretty rough compared to stock (with swype). Battery life is still an issue, also still working on the Deep Idle.

Better than most hacked together ROMs, but not as polished as stock... to be expected.
