Root [ROM] SteelDroid3 [.890 Based] [2.3.4] [Debloated] [Fast]

Oh my this is so wonderful I feel like a kid on Christmas.

It doesn't look like there is anything rewarding for running this ROM so for now I might just stay stock rooted until there are benefits.

It's basically just a debloated ROM.
However, I saw significant speed improvement from stock .890 to SD3

Did you even bother with the official OTA or just go straight to this?

Also is there anything unpleasant you've noticed about the ROM?

edit: Also is there an option to keep Google Maps and Gmail or will I have to download them from the market?

The dev. said that they must be downloaded. He went as debloated as possible since many don't use either GMaps or Gmail.

You MUST be on .890 before flashing this.
Flashing over the stock version (can't remember the number of the top of my head) will cause a BOOT LOOP.

Whether you update via OTA or SBF, it doesn't matter. Just as long as you are on .890

Flashing the ROM now. Looking forward to it :). I'm gonna add a couple bloatware apps back like Files and Downloads just because they were helpful.

Edit:Looks like the ROM kept Files and Downloads it even added some bloatware i got rid of lol. So far so good. Im liking it, but I noticed that the Gmail app doesn't run even if you install it from the market.

Edit 2: I rebooted and installed the swype update and it looks like Gmail is working now.

Gmail worked fine for me, but I've already flashed back to stock.
The lack of calendar was bothering me, and I never made a backup of it so I couldn't just restore it.

gmail didnt work for me either, how do you go back to stock?

Hopefully you made a nand backup before you flashed SD3. If you did, M+Power then go to the last option (BP Tools IIRC), this will take you to CWM where you select Backup/restore, and restore your back up you (hopefully) made before you flashed SD3.

Is there no head phone support for SteelDroid?!? How can I get the calendar and messaging apps back? I downloaded the D3 dump and moved over the .apk's, but they refuse to install.

EDIT: Screw it. After a few boot loops and many FCs and apps missing that I'd consider standard, I'm going back to my recovery file and waiting for the kinks to be hammered out on this. I know it's still a beta, so I'll definitely give it a second chance. I do like the lack of bloat.

Yea man, i appriciate the effort from the dev, but this one's a dead fishy in my opinion. Im failing to see how removing key apps that make an android what it is, really improves upon it. I really hope there are some real roms for the droid3 in the future, htc's roms make moto's look like kiddie stuff. One of my friends rooted her evo and had 12 romz and about 100 themes at her finger tips

Well the Evo 4g is an older phone that's been rooted for a while. The Droid 3 literally just got the custom bootloader making it possible to put roms on it.

P.S. If you think 12 roms is a lot go take a look at the OG Droid's list.

Not to take away from SD here, but have you guys seen the MonsterROM over on XDA? I'm running it now. It's smooth and doesn't have the basic, missing apps of SD, yet it's debloated.

What I really like is that the dev is constantly updating it and making changes as issues are posted.
[themed rom] Monster rom - xda-developers

it seems like alot of the ROMs for the Droid 3 appear to be themes or simply a collection of apps un/in-stalled, But, This brings our list of Droid 3 ROMs to..2! Were going somewhere!?

GO devs!

I like it, but I'm not gonna update my phone until something significantly better than SteelDroid comes along.

CyanogenMod 7 is already in development ;)
Check my Ultimate Root Thread for the current status of it

Hey guys,
Being an idiot, I forgot to do a nandroid backup...Is there any way to go back to stock for me?
If so can someone explain it in a detailed way?
Many thanks :)

Here is another Rom I came across but did not try...

[themed rom] Monster rom 1.1i UPDATE 10/10/11 - xda-developers

dev said he was new to android, but so am I to some extent so not sure if that's good or bad...

I've been running MonsteRom since it first came out, and I really like it. It's fully themed and the dev. is extremely active, constantly updating, and open to suggestions. He releases a newer version about once a week as things present themselves...mostly just little things lacking needed color. Go check it out on XDA under Droid 3 General.
