Help ROM update - no Windows!

Captain

Lurker
Hi there all, this is my first post so go easy on me.

I got my G2 yesterday and want to ask some questions about upgrading the ROM.

1. what is the ROM?
2. what will the upgrade do for me?
3. will I loose my current data - messages, music, apps (not a real problem, just inconveinient)
4. will it affect the UI and in what way?
5. how long does it take?

Those are the easy questions.

Now the hard ones.

1. I don't run Windows how will I do the upgrade without the HTC software?
2. How do I get rid of the HTC Mail app - it wants to do microsoft exchange whenever i plug into USB and really annoys me that it opens itself so often.

Any and all answers are welcome.

Thanks you all,

Captain

Hi,

best thing to do is install a copy of Windows on your Mac using the standard bootcamp software, that's what I had to do and it works fine :).

1. what is the ROM?
this is basically the software on the phone
2. what will the upgrade do for me?
fix some small issues, speed up the phone
3. will I loose my current data - messages, music, apps (not a real problem, just inconveinient)
yes, but you you can backup everything using some apps available on the market
4. will it affect the UI and in what way?
not hte look, it will be faster
5. how long does it take?
not very long, 5-10 mins
