Help Root and Custom Rom

I have a SM-900V from Verizon and am wondering if:
  1. I can root it
  2. I can install a custom rom, and if so, some ideas on good roms
If the answer to 1 or 2 is yes, please post instructions or links as I have never rooted or installed a custom rom. I am running Android 5.0 and am tired of the bloatware and inability to use external sd card. I keep running out of space on my internal ~10GB storage.

Thanks.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Geoffrey Dudics :)

Rooting will depend on which version of Verizon firmware you are currently on. Could you post your Baseband version details...

Settings > About device > Baseband version

Thank you for the quick response.

One other question:
If I can't root the device, that means I can't use a custom ROM right?

That is correct. For Verizon customers, rooting, custom Roms and modding, are now a thing of the past. AT&T have also done the same with their cloneware. :(
