Root Root and Unroot problems, help needed please

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

OK, I have had my Nexus S for about six months now. Since day 1 there has been an intermittent problem with the radio where the phone simply will randomly refuse to make outbound calls or send texts (or receive calls or texts) unless I turn Airplane mode on and back off. I thought maybe running Cyanogen could fix the issue, and I wanted to check it out anyway.

I used the All Things Root guide and installed ClockWorkMod and Cyanogen 7 with no problems. Unfortunately it did not solve the issue. I have decided to send it in for warranty as I have since found out this is a common issue with this model.

So now I need to unroot. I followed the guide linked here (http://androidforums.com/nexus-s-all-things-root/262295-unroot-your-nexus-s.html) to unroot the phone. I installed the ROM in the guide and everything seemed fine, but now the radio doesn't work at all. Every time I try to dial or send a text, it tells me I must first turn off airplane mode. Turning airplane mode on or off has no effect, the error persists. I also noticed that when I boot into recovery it still loads ClockworkMod.

I decided to re-hack the phone so I could try a different ROM. But now I can't get it to work. I'm following this guide (How To: Root the Samsung Nexus S (Updated 01.20.11) | TheUnlockr) linked from the All Things Root thread. I have unlocked the bootloader successfully. The next step calls for me to boot into Recovery. When I do, ClockworkMod loads and tells me:

E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't open CACHE:recovery/log

So I can't copy Superuser onto the SDcard. I tried booting up and copying using the USB connection and just installing superuser.zip that way, and it appears to work, but I do not have a Superuser app in the app drawer. The following step in the guide says to:

1. Once the phone is booted up, plug it in via USB cable and do NOT mount the storage.

2. Open a command prompt on the computer and type the following with hitting enter at the end of each line:

adb shell
cd etc
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
mv install-recovery.sh install-recovery-no.sh

However when I run adb shell it says "error: device not found" and I can't seem to progress any further. Is this step even necessary? I did not do this the first time.

Thanks to anyone who has read this far. All I want to do is get this thing back to warranty status, or if you know of a way to fix the radio issue even better.

unlocked bootloader - yes ? > start phone in bootloader mode > run cmd ,enter path to : platform-tools & type : fastboot devices ... any device shown ? = good > put THIS recovery img in your "platform-tools" folder [should rename it to "recovery" or "1" to be more easy] > go to CMD window & type "fastboot flash recovery 1.img [or what name you gave it !!] ,wait for it ... now navigate to recovery > mounts & storage > mount usb storage [LEAVE IT LIKE THAT-The phone will mount] put your custom rom on your usb storage and...

>> INSTALL YOUR CUSTOM ROM ! Have phun !
