Since the 6.0.1 update is out, is it necessary to disable root to prevent bricking the phone, or anything bad in particular, or can I just flash the update manually and be fine?
If the OTA update lands on your phone and you accidentally tell it to download and install on your device, it will simply fail on the reboot and should not affect your phone.
You will need to flash the image manually from the Google website.

Thanks, the reason I ask is because I had a phone a few years back, had it rooted, once tried to hard reset, and I accidentally bricked the phone. So Im worried about having my nexus in the same state.
