Root root explorer quick root?

navh

Newbie
hi guys been reading the forums for a while now about rooting. Think im going to do it... one day! i have a HTC desire locked to Telstra in Aust. so have all the crappy bloat ware.
question is, can i install root explorer, enter the system, then app, select the bloat ware i dont want, for example currencyconverter.apk and hit delete. Then it will be deleted?

Or do i have to do a complete root to get rid of all the bloatware.

cheers

You can't use an app as an alternative to rooting - the app will need superuser privileges to carry out those actions, and those are only available after rooting. In fact to do it using root explorer you will need S-Off as well as root.

The simplest options would either be to root and then install a ROM without the crap, or to "debrand" the phone using an unbranded RUU (ROM Update Utility), after making a "goldcard" (a modified SD card which hides the phone ID and allows you to run a different RUU from your network's version). As my phone was always unbranded I don't know much about the latter, but a search for "debranding" in this forum should bring up some answers.

@navh, forum members SUroot and Lecter both have very good guides and FAQs about rooting that you can find in their signatures. Do some searching in this sub-forum and you'll get them. Rooting is fairly straightforward once you follow the guides and there are loads of ppl around to help you along if you get stuck. No need to be worried about doing it.
Good luck
