Root Root for zv5?

Is anyone working on root for the zv5 update? I really don't want to downgrade for root. Or does anyone know if the update.zip method will work on zv5? I was considering trying that method but don't want to brick either.

well people keep saying they are working on it. also dont flash it that way if you are rooted, it will soft brick.

The update.zip method I was referring to is a method of rooting, not flashing a software update. You format an SD card and place a zip file on it, boot the phone into recovery and flash the zip. I'm assuming its flashing a rooted system partition but have no way to verify that. But I'm also assuming it was for a previous build, that's why I said idk if it will work or not.

Most likely you are going to have to downgrade to root, period. What we are probably going to end up with is a ROM like the zv4 ROM. You will have to downgrade, root, then install a prerooted ROM through custom recovery like we have been doing with zv4. No rooting method other than towelroot on zv3 has been successful. In order for an update.zip method to work, we would have to be able to sign the zip, which we can't do.

Someone will find an exploit for zv5, I'm sure. If they don't, I guess I just won't have root. I'm not going through the hassle of downgrading (which will wipe my device), then rooting, then flashing another ROM. Sorry, but its not worth it for this phone.

Every developer says they can't do something because they don't want to or just don't know how or for whatever reason idrk, and then someone comes along and does it anyway.

That's entirely your call. Not sure who you're apologizing to.
Update.zip method described here. Not sure what builds it will work on, doesn't say. http://www.thetechbulletin.com/how-to-root-lg-volt-ls740-on-kitkat-4-4-4114/ but someone must have been able to sign a zip to create this method.
AFAIK we are unable to create a signed zip because of secureboot on this phone, which I don't think the L90 has. Considering the age of that article and the fact that it is offering towelroot as an alternative, it was written before zv4 even came out. That article seems to be making a few assumptions and just basing their method off of the L90 method. I don't think they even tried it, feeling confident that people will just use towelroot as it is excessively easier. There are people in the comments stating that the method doesn't work. Several update.zip methods were tried before towelroot turned up and none of them worked.

There's two reason developers don't do something. Either A, people with crappy attitudes, or B, they can't. In the case of A, it won't happen until a developer feels like it. In the case of B, at some point someone likely finds a new exploit and it gets done. It didn't happen with zv4, not holding my breath with zv5.

Should you change your mind about the downgrade process, there is now a rooted zv5 ROM. Should be uploaded soon.
