Root Root galaxy 2.2

Only if you need any of the root options...
One good reason to root is it then allows you to perform a lag fix on your SGS.

I have passed these links often but will do so here again.

Hi, i jst updated my SGS (Froyo) from I9000 DXJPA to I9000 DXJPE.
Now i can't root my SGS which i suspected that i missed out the step to unroot the SGS before updating the firmware.

I had tried few things as below:

1) Installing z4root (in debugging mode) = Force close during "Acquiring Root Shell".
2) Factory Reset and re-run z4root = Force close during "Acquiring Root Shell".
3) Hard Reset and re-run z4root = Force close during "Acquiring Root Shell".
4) Hard Reset and install SU = unable update the SU binary
5) Recovery Mode & apply sdcard:update.zip = E:failed to open /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip (No such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed

Anybody know what happened???

Is root required to do the battery stat erase? I ask because when I do the 3key start vol up-home-power, release power on first screen, I don't get an 'advanced options'. Also, does rooting make me more susceptible to viruses?
thanks in anticipation

EDIT
Yes I needed Voodoo lagfix / CWM to get a 'rest battery stats option'

Hi, got my galaxy s 2 days ago, decided to follow friends advice and do the lag fix. my phone is already 2.2, so i've downloaded z4root.apk and ryans oclf. i'm now running the 'root' and it's taking ages.

how long will this take?
what exactly is rooting?

Personally Ryans OCLF bricked my phone and i had to replace it! so ill NEVER trust or use it again! Chances are z4root wont work !(my replacment phone came with froyo like yours) and you have to use superoneclick method!
