Root Root Intercept SWupgrade

Ok so i rooted my gf's phone by flashing a rooted kernel through swupgrade. So i am in. Deleted her bloatware and noticed improvement.

I want to flash a custom rom for her but i dont have a custom recovery on the phone so I am not sure how. I tried the one click that would give a custom recovery but it never worked for me no matter how many times i unplugged it and plugged it in and rebooted blah blah blah. its a sprint intercept running 2.2.

If i go to her recovery I get like 5 options to reboot, install update.zip, and some other stuff that wont let me flash a .zip from the sd card. Can i flash a rom to her phone using swupgrade? or do I need to find a recovery that works?

SuperOneClick Does Not Give You A Custom Recovery SuperOneClick Gives You Access To Temp Root (You Will No Longer Have Access To Root Upon Reboot

To Flash A Custom Recovery
Download Either CM01 Or Vamp's Custom Recovery (In My Post Below I Have Linked Both

Note (.Tar Archives Are To Be Flashed Thru SWUpdater (.Zip Archives Are To Be Flashed Thru Recovery (The Only Time .Tar Archives Are Flashed Thru Recovery Are If They Are System Backups Or Data Backups

After Downloading Put The .Tar File In SWUPdaters Binary Folder
Run SWUpdater Complete The On Screen Instructions
You Now Have A Custom Recovery :3

Note (Now Would Be A Good Time To Make Backups (System/Data Just In Case :3
Or If You Dont Feel Like It Make Sure To Get One Of Those Full Restore .Tar Things For SWUpdater Theres One Available On SDX In A Post Titled DL05 Update In The Android 2.2 Development Section

To Flash A Custom ROM
Download A Custom ROM Of Choice (I Recommend Ubuntdroid
Put The .Zip On Yor SDCard In SDX/ZIP IF your using vamp's
if your using cm01 it doesnt matter

make sure you clear the dalvik cache

Also i found his usefull in cm01 there is feature that allows you to put a password so ppl cant mess with stuff in recovery

I see most using inxane recovery...how do i get that onto her phone? with swupgrade?

Yeah Most Use Either CM01 Or Vamp's Custom Recovery

CM01 http://forum.sdx-developers.com/intercept-development/intercept-recovery-%28important-features-working!%29-%28updated-11311%29/

Vamp's Custom Recovery http://forum.sdx-developers.com/intercept-development/vampirefo-recovery-10578/

Also Give Vamp's Custom Kernel A Try He Has One For 2.1 And 2.2 (I Think

Hopefully This Helps,

That was way more helpful than I thought I was going to get. That's exactly the info I needed. You rock. One more question. I used swupdate and put a slapkernel on her phone. That's how I gained root access. Do I need to a full wipe before I put cm01.tar on there? And if yes, how? Is it an option in the hboot screen?

Nope

Alright man. Done, flashed recovery, backed up, flashed ubuntdroid 4.5, and then crapkernel. Got it to 11 mflops and rocking and faster than a Droid on quadrant. But what matters is how smooth it works now. Really appreciate your help.

Noob: Okay so I rooted my Evo 4G 2.3 and I downloaded the Cyanogen Mod 7 ROM with ROM Manager. It immediately was having problems, then all of a sudden ROM Manager started having problems as well. So, I just want to go back to stock and unroot. The whole shibang. I went to bootloader and for some reason when I go to install/flash zip from SD card It doesnt do anything. When I click on the file I want to install/flash the file is empty and there is no way to do anything. Can someone please help. I am so sad cause I just got my phone and I barely got to enjoy it yet.
