Root ROOT issues AGAIN

So i got my galaxy s in October last year... rooted the phone and installed OCLF. All was well in my little android world until I foolishly went to update to Froyo via Kies and forgot to remove OCLF. I bricked the phone and the had to take it in to a Samsung Service Centre to get it fixed.

They made it all better - and installed froyo for me ;) .... so naturally not learning from my mistakes ( story of my life ) .. as soon as I got home I installed z4root - rooted and then installed OCLF. Phone still seemed slow and laggy.

Tonight ( BEFORE doing a backup - ofcourse grr ) I decided I want to get rid of both because something seems not right.
I removed OCLF from within the app - phone ended up in a loop.. wouldnt go past Samsung logo, sometimes I got as far as the first screen and the it would just vibrate.

I used 3BR to do a factory reset/wipe data. Then I downloaded latest z4root app and clicked on UNROOT.

Now im left with no apps... data or phone numbers. But a phone that is sort of like new ;)

My question is, has anyone had issues with these two apps?? ... is it worth rooting on Froyo for the lagfix AND any idea on where I went wrong?

As mentioned earlier , I dont know what it means to learn from my mistakes. So I am tempted to root again ( this time with an updated z4root apk and try OCLF again and hope it will work like it used to on 2.1 )

Should I have maybe stuck with my Nokia 3310 from the year 2000 ? :p

EDIT : While I await your helpful replies ;) I am reading up on the mystery of flashing custom roms on my Android. Because if your going to do damage .. you may aswell do it properly right?
Feel free to advise me on this aswell - be warned.. i have an attitude:P

OCLF sucks. Shouldn't have used it in the first place. Single largest source of bricked phones. It has a habit of bricking the phone even if you don't do anything at all.

Ryans OLCF?! never EVER again...they "lovely" app bricked my phone and i had to replace it..

could not agree more
it is long gone from my phone
aftyer hours of frustration

i learnt how to install custom roms.. and dont need lagfix now.. wish i had known this earlier :)

I would go here [ROM] Darky's Gingerbread Edition

After endless frustration of messing about with Kies I decided to try flashing a custom rom. Since then I have not looked back, seriously it's like having a different phone, the difference is unbelievable. Plus the whole flashing procedure is extremely simple, and not half as complicated as some would have you believe!

The site above is full of friendly helpful people, once you flash a rom from Darky you'll not go back to standard.

thanks for the info :) ... I have no access to Kies or Odin because our PC needs to be thrown in the trash ;) ... I managed to flash Darkys from within the phone ( and using the SGS Kernel flasher rom + rom manager ) ... loved it.. but ive got to say I love Docs Rom Kitchen even better... seems to run smoother w/my phone...
