Here's what's been tried so far, so nobody wastes more time on them 
1) Gingerbreak 1.2 APK (just sits there forever but does nothing)
2) SuperOneClick 2.1.1 (Hangs at step 6)
3) SuperOneClick 1.9.5
4) MotorolaOneClickRoot (I figured what the hell - it's 2.3.4 - appears to work, reboots phone, each step says success, but does NOTHING).

5) Soup Or Root 2.06 Beta - Goes through the movement but accomplishes nothing.
