Root Root noob here.. Few questions

Hi all

After having my WFS for a few days, and down to a few meg internal memory already (using app2sd and clearing caches etc) I decided to look into rooting but have a few questions following this forums guide..

Step 3B on the guide, can I skip everything between 3B and 3C (bootlader is unlockable)?
On step 3C, is using adb commands to retrieve oem token relatively simple? Also the flashing part.

I'm pretty good usually with tech stuff, just don't want to mess up

That's all for now, more to come i'm sure :D

Cheers!

Hi,

You can definitely skip things between 3b and 3c, if you Bootloader is latest version.( Between HBOOT 1.08.xxxx to 1.10.xxxx).

And on the OEM Identifier Token part is very simple. HTCdev.com is guiding good with sample pics. Just go thru carefully. That's all.

First problem. I rooted using HTC supertool which went well, now downloaded SuperSU and when I open it i get 'There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!'

Do I need to manual root?

Actually Superuser might be installed with HTC Supertool. Check whether Superuser is installed. If not then try SuperSU.

I'm going to do the manual 'mini procedure' root as SuperSU isn't working.

Trying to work out which img file I need from Clockworkmod's index site - I'm on Marvel (MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL) but there's a few options..

'recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img 29-Jan-2012 01:39 4601856

recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img.md5sum.txt 29-Jan-2012 01:40 93

recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.zip 29-Jan-2012 01:40 2059327

recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.zip.md5sum.txt 29-Jan-2012 01:40 101'

Which should I use? I'm thinking the first one

EDIT: The third one (zip. file) has no img. file, so i'm pretty sure it's the first file as the others are txt. files.

Right I think I'm done. I rooted via the manual method, SuperSU and Super User are installed on the phone. I haven't installed a custom ROM yet, but apart from that, am I done?

Can I now re sync all my apps, contacts etc and install some apps like SetCPU or does this require a custom ROM?

Lot more options are there for you, Depends on your needs. When you root the device you lose warranty(as all know), then you can't get any more official updates. Hence you can go for a updated Custom and/or Stock ROM.

Just go on my threads below, may suggest you something...

Note: Before proceeding anything with Custom/Stock ROM, take a complete backup from CWM and Keep it safely.....
