Root Root noob question

I posted this question in the all things root noob thread and haven't gotten an answer, sorry for the outta place thread but I am anxious to root like now if I get the answer im hoping for. The question is, is it possible that the phone can be "bricked" beyond repair during the root process? And if so what are the chances of that happening? One other question is can someone directly link me to the best tutorial to use in rooting a stock 2.2.1 Optimus m, thanks in advance for all replies.

Yes u can although if just follow the directions carefully u shouldn't. Also there are plenty of threads and people willing to help get u squared away if u do brick it. There's a sticky I believe in all things root section called easiest root guide. That's what I used. Read through the threads first, most of the roadblocks u may encountered have been solved and answerd.

Firstly, thanks for the reply, and yes i have been reading alot of threads where people are frantic that their phone is unusable so that if something like that happens to me i wont have to deal with anxiety and ill know right where to go to fix the problem, thanks for reccomending a tutorial, I must admit I am rather nervous about rooting my phone because If i do mess it up beyond repair it will be atleast 3-4 weeks before I can replace it and I really cant imagine life without my Android lol.

I felt the same nervousness as well but you'll be fine. Most people brick their phone trying to flash rom's improperly. You'll laugh @ how easy it all seems once you do it.

I am rooted and have made the recovery and indeed it is way easier than i had imagined...will save the rom flash for tomorrow, are there certain roms that will or will not work with stock 2.2.1?

The 2 most popular ones are sense rom and cm7. Cm7 is 2.3 so its better in that sense but is still in beta so there are bugs. I use sense rom and its great.
