Help Root Note 5 - Baseband xxS2AOK3

I just purchased a new Note 5 and I have been rooting my Note phones since Note 2. I recently ran into an issue when trying to reset my Note 4 after rooting.. Here is a link to that thread:

http://androidforums.com/threads/bricked-note-4-after-wiping.1029398/

I want to properly root my Note 5 so that I am able to do the exact same thing I did with my Note 4 (uninstall system apps, disable updates and OTA notifications, etc.). But I also want to be able to cleaning reset the device when I am ready to sell it. Can someone provide me with any specific details and steps?

Before you start, make a full backup as it is now with Kies....

then, when you get it restored again, you can use the backup to put it back as it was when you received it.

and make a very religious step by step document of what you did, and save the files you use to root it...

Thanks for this. To make a long story short, it didn't work....or more specifically, I may have missed something.

I didn't notice until it was too late but my phone came with Lollipop installed, not Marshmallow. I initially performed the root process on Lollipop but ended up with an error on startup. The error is irrelevant now as I was able to restore the phone using the Odin technique you showed me in the other thread. It was not until after doing this that I realized I was not running Marshmallow.

After upgrading to Marshmallow, my new baseband is PD1. The problem now is that none of my Windows computers recognize my phone when I connect it via a sync cable. I've tried three different computers and two different cables. Each time I get a message that Windows does not recognize the device. I've attached an example of the message.

I've been looking into rooting without a computer but I am a bit skeptical as each of my previous Note phones were rooted using a computer. Do you have any recommendations on rooting without using a computer?

Do you get that message with phone in download mode?
If phone is booted normally and you connect to PC you should see USB symbol in top drop down menu. Pull down on drop down and see if USB is set for MPT.

I tried it one more time and, sure enough, the MPT message appeared. This allowed Odin to recognize the phone. The original rooting process stalled so I simply used CF-Auto-Root and that worked after a few auto-restarts. I confirmed root using Root Checker and Super SU. Much appreciate all of your assistance.
