Root Root on Linux?

Is there a way I can root my t399n without Odin?
I can get Odin running in wine but the phone can't be detected in download mode, and I can't get a VM running.
My computer is running manjaro (but soon to be Ubuntu 14 if I can find my SD or USB ) if that's any help

I have been encountering the same issues with this phone myself. I am on a Mac, I tried Wine & Wine bottler; got Odin running and couldn't get my phone to be detected. I tried various different cables. I then tried Virtual box, and booted in windows. Same thing, no detection. I can get my phone to be detected using Samsung's little media application, but it is useless. I thought I would be clever and slip SU update zip in through that on my SD card, and while the update package begins unzipping; the screen displays a message about signature verification failure and the update cancels. I have tried with the SU app installed and uninstalled, no root access... I wonder why the phone can't be detected. I have tried to find separate USB drivers for Mac besides what's bundled into their media player but I don't think they exist. You got any ideas?

Mac OS X and Linux are both Unix variants - as such there's no such thing as a USB driver for either one.

It's an unnecessary construct unique to Microsoft.
