Root on this phone?

The boot loader needs to unlocked first. The only Stylo 3 phone supported so far is the "LG Stylo 3 Plus (T-Mobile / Metro PCs / LGM470)" ... not the Boost/Sprint variant LG LS777. I checked all pages for "unlocking the boot loader" for the LS777 on the site referred to in the so called instructions and there is no support for the LS777 (Boost/Sprint variant) listed.

I would strongly suggest waiting for reports of multiple LS777 phones getting the boot loader successfully unlocked before attempting this method.

I have already bricked more than 4 LS777 (Boost variant) phones in my efforts.

Sprint/Boost has bootloader lockdowns on all LG devices for the last several years.. I use Boost Mobile myself and had to switch to Motorola for custom ROM capability (I've been pleased) as every other Mfgr is locked tight as hell on Sprint's network.. which is one reason I don't touch LG.. Plus LG has a bunch of closed source proprietary stuff that breaks VoIP/VoLTE compatibility in custom ROMs. Motorola has been one of the few that persist in supporting the Development community and I've been excited as heck to be able to work on them. A mega big shout out & thanks to @Jfalls63, Pie dropped on Android One today!!

I no longer have this device and wish I'd tried this b4 I lost it...
but if you get the Modded version of LGup or the DEV version of lgup, you can dump the stock firmware from the device using (Dump ) option in lgup,
then, if your brave enough, take the files created specifically ( boot_COM3 ) {COM number may be different but files the same} and rename it to boot.img.
put that in the Download folder on sdcard, install the Magisk Manager app .
choose install, then choose patch boot.img and select the boot.img file you placed in sdcard.
after it's done you'll get a file called patched_boot.img.
move that file to your PC and rename it boot.img .
Now go back to lgup and choose the option ( partitions download ) choose the newly renamed boot.img and flash it to the device in download mode.
upon completion, reboot your device and as long as things went right you should have systemless root via Magisk. follow other tutorials as to how to set up your new Magisk root.

And if you've the testicular fortitude to try this and it works for you, come back here and let others know how it went,
if it doesn't work you may flash stock .kdz in lgup to recover phone, if you can find the .kdz
I no longer have the device so I can niether confirm or deny that this will work.

Do you have a link to that Modded/Dev version of LGup?

How many do you think would be willing to chance bricking their phone with untested methodology?
I would imagine that number to be quite low.

Well sir how the heck do you think any root exploits are found?
I myself have a pile of bricked fones in my android development grave yard.
And exactly how many UNIQUE rooting exploits have you your-self developed?

I'd imagine that some folks will as you say be hesitant to try the UNKNOWN.
But then there may be that one kid out there that has one of these P.O.S phones laying around and not using it for a daily driver.... said hypothetical kid may want to try it and if it works he'd be back to laugh at the scared ones lol.
But like I said UNTESTED ---> ON THIS DEVICE.
I can Say for certain, that I have used EXACTLY this method to root several other
UN-Rootable LG devices...
So , Try it, Don't try it, It's a matter of personal opinion , I just root androids and build custom exploits and have TWRP on all of MY devices LMAO
have a nice Day

@bcrichster
Hey Buddy are you going to give it a shot on this device?

Me? No.. I'm not a big fan of LG devices as they tend to kick me hard with stuff I'm unfamiliar with, Lol. Besides, I run Boost Mobile/Sprint and LG locked tight as a drum of gold dust on these 2 carriers, Lol. I sometimes think they'd go the way of VZW and lock down everything, if allowed. I'll be switching Carriers if they do but I've been happy with my Motorola's so far. ;)

Yeah but this has even worked on several VZW devices too ;)
I wish i still had one of these laying around to try it lol

right now I'm running NethunterOS on my OPO bacon, as a daily driver.
and I killed my Lg K8 the other day trying to cross-flash a different carrier's .kdz to it.
now it's stuck in Android Net Usb mode lol
lgup don't recognize it anymore, lgflash tool used to help in this exact situation but they've changed some things and the old flash tool won't help for the newest devices... :(

I can't find the firehose.mbn for qfil to fix it either, i did create a qfil flash-able LGfirmware with a lil help from our friends at hovatek but with out a damn firehose file for it (msm8909) it'll just sit there and rot till I get a usb-jtag and start taking things apart... then again, I may sell it for parts or stuff it into an ECOatm phone recycle machine...
My ethics wont allow me to buy a new one and return the old one after swapping the sim and sticker from under the battery... tho back in my older days that's probably exactly what i'd have done. ;) oh well $50 down the crapper lol.

Umm.. remember open_bump.py for kernels/recoveries? They quit using it after LP and have some new stuff now I can't remember the name of. BUT (Lol) SuperR's Kitchen has a new LG plugin that was verified by Sean Hoyt to be working on the newer LG's. I'm not sure if that plugin is applicable in this situation but may be worth looking into..

Attempted sarcastic degradation ... mature response. I asked a simple question anticipating a response other than school yard baiting. Many have a “grave yard” as you call it. Please keep in mind, most phones have a root source found within a year. The LG LS777 has yet to be cracked, and I still search while I can imagine you have given up on further attempts. Let’s try to remain focused on the task so we can make advances please.

Yeah you're right.
Lets not have any wildwest showdowns or anything.
All im saying is the OP said he's gotten a second device to use for testing.
and im trying to convey an idea that has proven to work on several other lg phones.
i understand that everyone probably has no idea that this can be done. After all i havent
found much documentation about the tool lgup.
but im not the only person thats hakz the lgup tool to get things done.
i agree that flashing random krap found on the internet is a BAD idea.
but im talking about flashing the devices own boot img back to it .
sometimes this works.
then again it can also cause a softbrick.
in that case if you locate the correct lg firmware .kdz
you can usually still get to download mode as long as you didnt alter
the aboot abootbak sbl sblbak and laf and sometimes lafbak partitions.
however the process of restoreing the device with lgup
is the equiv. Of a factory reset. All data would be lost.

But anyhow. Dont take my word for it..
google is your friend.
do a bit of research.
Weigh out the pros and cons.
make an educated decision.
and please kidz dont try this on you or your mums
daily driver phone ;)

Merry Christmas everyone
