Help root options for 4.4.4?

I just downgraded back to 4.4.4 with Oden assuming that's what I had prior to 5.0, well it aint. I must have had 4.4.2. I see that popular options for rooting with 4.4.4 (towelroot) dont work and others trip knox, though I'm not sure I care about that. I kinda like the 4.4.4 and would love to root it or do whatever it takes to keep Verizon from jamming lollipop down my throat again. Should I download 4.4.2, root, and then reflash back to 4.4.4?

Someone had said Verizon had pulled the update till they get things worked out. I can't confirm this is true, but worth looking into. Are you currently being prompted to update to 5.0?

I am on Verizon Galaxy S5, 4.4.4 and have not rooted, and I am not being pestered to upgrade to Lollipop.

Try this for a while and see if it works for you also.

settings/app mgr/app/all

turn off, "config.updater" and "Samsung.update"
Make sure you check AutoDates is OFF
Make sure you check Updates via WiFi only.

Now, use WiFi at your own risk.... I have a couple of times, but usually I just use my DATA plan.... so far, I have not pushed it up to my 3 Gb limit/month. and that is with 4 of us using the Family Share Plan....

all of my family members are told to stick to WiFi, but they don't have Galaxy S5 phones.
that leaves me with the whole 3 gB enchilada

.

We got the update 2 weeks ago and I immediately hated my phone. Im not a techy by any means but it had me scrounging for some kind of way to get my phone back, since I'm paying so dang much for it...

AZ, I'll check on that but those prompts don't sound familiar. I use Pandora at the house so I need WiFi. I just hope the update comes with a postpone option of some type if they send it again.

it does have a question box as per what I read.
I have seen it before when it upgraded to 4.4.4 from 4.4.2

I told it NO several times, then it came up and gave me the option of Now or Later which requires you schedule a time.

But, we have a thread here that shows how to get rid of the update before it upgrades the phone.... you push the Power Button, and choose Turn OFF

then you follow this script. I'm just the messenger here, okay?

* Lollipop Update delay by clearing cache 3 times

that gets rid of the downloaded file so it can't upgrade the phone.... you are good until an upgrade is forced on you again. but at least you can stick with 4.4.4
